Brian VanDePutte has over 15 years of canine training and handling experience. Starting with 5 years of active duty with the United States Marine Corps. During that time he participated in the Military Police Canine Handler’s course and later went on to attend the Department of Defense (DOD) Specialized Search Dog Course. His time in the military greatly benefited his knowledge of canines. After a

ctive duty Brian went on to train canines for a company contracted to provide IED Detection Dogs for the Marine Corps. Not only providing superior canines but training the marines who would handle them on the battlefield. He then worked with a non-profit, H4HUS, that provides veterans with Equine and Canine assisted therapy. He developed the Canine Handling Immersion Program which helps veterans work through issues using canines. Brian has continued an active role in sharing his canine knowledge with both Military and Civilians to help everyone have a better relationship with their furry companions. There are so many ways to have a great relationship with your dog from working with them on basic obedience, which in turn builds trust, and respect, to fun activities like throwing a Frisbee, scent detection activities, and taking them through fun obstacles like in a canine agility course. In general, if you give your dog some mental stimulation through task training and overcoming challenging situations, your dog will start to work to please you in anticipation of their next reward instead of trying to assert their dominance and rule the roost.

Liberty Ranch Canine was proud to be a part of the Grand Opening of the Mount Vernon, Texas Animal Shelter yesterday! We had the pleasure of working hands-on with three amazing dogs who are currently available for adoption—and each one showed incredible potential.

Blondie is a spayed female a little over a year old, weighing 27 pounds. She’s a shy and cautious girl at first. During our session, she quickly began to trust us and was taking treats within a few minutes. With continued socialization and patient guidance, Blondie will blossom into a confident and loving companion.

Duke just turned a year old and weighs 67 pounds. This big, happy boy has tons of energy and personality! Despite his size and enthusiasm, Duke impressed us with how quickly he started picking up on commands like sit, down, and even the heel position. He’s very food motivated, making him a great candidate for continued obedience training and structure.

Daisy is around 5 months old and weighs 33 pounds. With her unique coloring and bright personality, she immediately stood out. She’s extremely food motivated, eager to learn, and very focused on her handler. Daisy was a natural when it came to engagement and responsiveness.

In honor of the Mount Vernon Animal Shelter’s Grand Opening, Liberty Ranch Canine is offering 10% off all training programs for any dog adopted from the Mount Vernon, Texas Animal Shelter. We’re excited to support this new shelter and help their adoptable dogs and future families start off on the right paw!

Honey, our adopted 4-month-old Dachshund mix, is a perfect example of how even young rescue pups can accomplish big things with the right guidance and consistency. Coming from a local rescue and fostered by one of our assistant trainers, Honey started her journey with plenty of puppy energy and curiosity — but quickly showed just how eager and capable she was to learn. Despite her small size and age, she’s already made impressive progress in her obedience training, learning to focus, follow direction, and stay calm in new environments. She even joined us at a local community event, confidently showing off her skills and winning hearts along the way. Honey’s success is a wonderful reminder that with structure and patience every dog — rescue or not — has the potential to shine.

She truly is an example that any size, age, or breed can succeed in our obedience programs!

We are so grateful to have the privilege to teach some of our local 4th graders about responsible dog ownership at the annual HalloGreen event hosted by the Cypress Basin Master Gardeners Association this month.

Our newest Liberty Ranch Canine family member, Honey the feisty Dachshund mix, made a star appearance at the event! She quickly stole the show and captured all the kids’ attention. Max and Goldie were there to show her the ropes, setting a great example with their focus and manners. Even Sunnie, one of our day training pups, joined in and showed off her progress. We’re so proud of how well all the dogs represented Liberty Ranch Canine — confident, social, and obedient!

Our 4-Week Board & Train program is designed to take obedience beyond the basics and into the real world. Over the course of training, dogs practice holding long durations in their positions, even around distractions, and receive consistent exposure to public outings where reliability truly matters.

Nick, one of our current participants, is excelling in the program. His ability to maintain focus and perform with confidence in busy environments highlights the value of structured, consistent training.
