Doing a 1st groom on a puppy is always challenging! But I love grooming puppies! The progress they make by their 2nd groom always amazes me. This tiny 6 month old toy Poodle "Cocoa" was so scared and wiggly ( I renamed him "Mr. WIGGLES!") Might not be the best groom this time but it will only get better, and at least he sorta resembles a Poodle!

Had this little 8 mon old girl today for her 1st ever groom. "Sadie" was a trooper and oh so sweet! 0ne of the best puppies ever to groom! Quite the transformation but I think she turned out absolutely darling!

Teacup chihuahua?

Well Valentina does fit in a teacup and still hasn’t reached 1lb in body weight but we’re going to use this moment and her adorable picture to spread a little dog education 😊

There is no such thing as a “teacup” any breed. This may not be a popular statement but it’s the truth! There is “breed standard” and over and under that standard. The term teacup was developed to sell dogs. Unethical breeders developed the term to market their smaller than standard puppies. Many of those “teacup” puppies are actually runts from their litters. Most of those breeders don’t have spay/neuter contracts. So then you have people breeding runts with other runts and a whole slew of other health issues arise. Other unethical breeders latched on to the term to sell their normal or over sized puppies but would sell them at a much younger age so they’d appear to be “teacups”. It’s a mess and the public in search for the tiniest has lapped it all up.

In rescue we’re not overly concerned with standards (all dogs no matter their size are amazing to us!) but we do want the public to be informed and education is the key to that. If you’re purchasing from a breeder run far far away if you see the term “teacup” used to describe their puppies. Or better yet adopt and save a life. A life that was likely discarded by the very unethical breeder trying to sell you that “teacup” puppy.

I absolutely love this boy "Blake." I've been grooming him for a few years and I try to steal him every time I see him, with no luck, understandably! He is the sweetest and best behaved dog ever.. and he honestly loves his spa day! He loves all of the pampering, hugs and kisses he gets while being here and falls asleep standing up while I'm drying him! ❤

"Doodles"
Just a word about all of the Doodle mixes- from golden/lab Doodles to Berner Doodles, to sheepadoodles and aussie doodles and cock-a-doodles... They all have Poodle in them which means they are high maintenance when it comes to grooming! This is something that the "breeders" don't tell you! Unless you want your Doodle shaved down like a plucked chicken they need to be groomed every 6-10 weeks (pending coat type.) No groomer wants to shave your dog down to the skin! Dematting them is the equivalent to trying to comb out dred locks on a person, very painful! Unless you can get a comb down to the skin, your Doodle is matted! So plz comb your Doodles "down to the skin!" Here are some of my recent Doodles in for grooming.

Another incredibly sweet baby for her 1st groom. Little "Charlie Girl" the baby Bichon that mom thought was going to give me a run for my money, turned out to be one of the best puppies I have groomed! She Wasn't afraid of anything! And I also got many kisses from her! What a doll!

It's great to see all the puppies I started last fall coming back for their 2nd and 3rd grooms!
Adorable "Daisy" a BernaDoodle was happy to see me again today! She is such a sweetheart and remembered everything she learned from last time. Thank goodness as, she is only 6 months old and already 50 pounds!!! I can't stress enough how important it is to get your pups into your groomer by 4 months of age at the latest to get them acclimated to the "grooming process!" That makes for a happy dog and Happy groomer!

Due to business being crazy busy I haven't posted in a while. So I had to show 2 of my new dogs from today. "Lacie" is a rescue dog from a puppy mill.
You can see her coat is stained yellow from laying in her own urine for years, Extremely sad!
Of course she was very scared when she came in, probably never had a grooming before... I'm elated to say that she quickly decided that she loved her "spa day" and all the pampering that came with it! Look at that "Samy smile" when she was finished! What a sweetheart, I truly enjoyed grooming her.
This the most satisfying feeling for me, and what I love most about my job!
Adorable little "Wilder" the Pomeranian was an angel and also a pleasure! Can't get much cuter!

This is about as cute as it gets! One of my favorite dogs brought his new little sister with him for socializing during his grooming today. "Walter" the Bichon and his new sidekick "Charlie" were nothing short of adorable! "Walter" showed his baby sister that grooming isn't all that bad! "Charlie" took it all in stride, while mostly napping on the grooming table next to her big bro! And for everyone wondering why the baby girl has a cone on her head... being a wild puppy she fractured her leg and has a splint on her leg! Gotta love them puppies!
