We took a much needed vacation in the middle of October and came home to busy busy busy. I have been processing food and still have a bit to put up. I got a bunch (25 pounds) of beets processed and 21 pints of pinto beans. I made some refried beans that we'll enjoy with dinner. So thankful I am able to do this and share.

Wow! It has been a month since my last post. We have been very busy. Lonnie has been working on a pretty big job off site with the excavator. Summer is just getting away from me. I have been harvesting the tomatoes and putting them up in the freezer until I have more time to process them into delicious Italian stewed tomatoes, and marinara. Check out the size of these Roma and Polish Linguisa (paste) tomatoes!

While I was picking beans in the fenced (chicken proof) garden I stumbled upon this soon to be mother hiding behind some tall dandelions and my elephant garlic bin. Surprise!

Today's little harvest. Picked about a pound of green beans, I have a few varieties the rattlesnake (green and purple) are my favorite. A few more tomatoes turning colors, lemon cucumbers and of course squash. I spied a flower on one of my eggplants today so there should be some of those soon too.

We went camping for the weekend and came home to red tomatoes in the garden, and would you believe more squash! I picked 4 peaches from our trees, they were a little sweet, good flavor but were not quite ready.

This was at least 5 years ago the one time my tomatoes were infested with tiny chickens.. Once upon a time I thought chickens could be in a garden and eat bugs and pick out weeds. Which they do, but they also eat all of the things and EVERYTHING! Now I know better and have a fence around my chickens. And a fence around the garden.

I processed 33 half pints of strawberry jam tonight. Will be doing some more jam making on Saturday with my sister in law. 🍓

Taking a break from all of the squash. 🤣 I harvested about half of my basil tonight and made some fresh pesto. Some before and after photos of the basil. Part of me is sad I never got it planted in the ground, but the part of me that did not have to bend over to harvest thought this was great!

A few pictures of our flock. Woody (wood duck) and Winnie (Rouen duck) were rescues dropped off by our post carrier. Woody was found just a few days old. The geese (Christmas dinner) and the Indian Runner ducks (egg producers) hanging out near the water. And some of the sneaky turkeys (Thanksgiving dinner) sneaking up behind me to eat my hair.

Outside in the garden this morning watching all the things grow. Okra flowers are so pretty, Lupine, different varieties of green beans, watermelons, lemon cucumbers and a Cantaloupe (aka unmarriable fruit - can't elope 🤣)

So many squash. I have learned 9 Patty pan squash plants are too many for a single family. Who needs some, let me know. The peppers are doing great and starting to put on their peppers. They're so cute.

Summer is here and the garden is beginning to produce yummy veggies. 🌱🌿🥒 White patty pan squash, black beauty zucchini and a cometa squash. We just replaced the burners on the grill today too. BBQ zucchini tonight???
