Hope you all have a safe and happy 4th! ๐๐พ๐๐พ
Smile, Rosie! ๐ธ
This little girl (mix unknown) has been coming in to see me while her regular groomer is recovering from surgery. Itโs going to be hard to give her back though! She feels like a real life teddy bear and is just the sweetest! ๐๐๐
Cody is a 12 year old Great Pyrenees and Collie mix. He came in today for a deshed and trim up. Because of his size and age he spent most of his groom laying down. Which is no problem at all! I worked with him in ways that kept him safe and comfortable while still giving him the grooming he needed. He was such a giant (110lbs) sweetheart! ๐ Iโll look forward to seeing you next time big boi.
Wolfie is such a good boi with so much undercoat to share with the world! Iโll share some before and after pictures of him tomorrow!
Turn down the volume if you donโt want to hear my dog mom voice. ๐
๐ฌ For National Dog Day I wanted to give you a serotonin boost by meeting Howie the hound mix! He came in for a bath and shed less treatment and the amount of hair he left me is incredible! Everything you see on the floor plus two huge handfuls in the tub! ๐๐ถ๐
This works for birthdays or gotcha days! If youโre a current client be sure to send me your petโs date! ๐ฅณ
Ms. Paisley enjoying her spa day! Donโt mind my dog mom voice. I talk to them all like theyโre mine! ๐
๐ If youโre curious you can read her story below to see why she is so calm for her grooming now.
Paisley and her brother came in this past January for their first full grooms. My clients adopted them towards the end of last year after they had been rescued from a puppy mill. ๐ฅบ They were very nervous at that first appointment. So many things were still so new to them and now this lady they didnโt know wanted them to stand on a table and do strange stuff like trim their nails and use these noisy clippers. The first time took a while because the babies needed breaks to just be a puppy! We have fun, cuddle, and I say โgood pup!โ as much as possible so they know that theyโre not just here for grooming but to have a good time.
I build on this at each visit because a groomer must earn the trust of the pet they are working with. That trust does not always come easily and it really depends on their past grooming experiences or lack there of. Unfortunately dogs arenโt fluent in our language so we canโt simply explain what weโll be doing and assure them everything will be okay. You have to show them by being patient when theyโre scared, taking a break if either of you start to feel frustrated, always reassuring them that theyโre good/brave, and knowing when to say โweโll work on that next timeโ if any part of the process is too overwhelming for them. It all comes down to building trust and it takes a varying amount of time for each pet.
So here we are, almost six months in, and this sweet pup is laying down for her feet and nail trims. She actually fell asleep while I was scissor cutting her face! ๐ฅฐ At her first groom she could barely make eye contact with me and never laid down on the table because she was so nervous. Now she lays there and watches the cars drive by out the window. ๐
Every time this happens Iโm so proud o
I thought I would show you a little bit of the spa today. This is where everyone gets glammed up.
