Today we are CELEBRATING our FIRST BIRTHDAY!

One year ago today, It Takes A Village Spay & Neuter Clinic performed our first public surgery!

We have been closed for the last few weeks, out of an abundance of caution, while the shelter has been battling distemper. We are very excited to open back up and start scheduling surgeries again!

Thank you so much to our wonderful clinic staff for the excellent care they provide to all of their patients!

REMINDER Today is our ONE DAY ONLY walk-in vaccination clinic for both dogs and cats from 9am-11:30am and 12:30-3:30pm at our facility located at 1510 Grandview Avenue in Suite 6.

No appointments needed. This is not a free event, though the DAPPv and FVRCP vaccines are free of charge (thanks to a generous grant from Petco Love). Standard appointment fees, testing, other vaccinations and preventatives, etc still apply.

Spots available on a first come, first serve basis. No aggressive animals. All dogs and cats must be healthy and free of disease in order to receive vaccines.

In an effort to ensure the health and safety of the pets in our community, It Takes a Village Spay and Neuter Clinic will host a walk-in vaccination clinic for both dogs and cats on Tuesday, February 6, from 9am-11:30am and 12:30-3:30pm.

No appointments needed. This will be done on a first come, first serve basis. No aggressive animals. All dogs and cats must be healthy and free of disease in order to receive vaccines. If your pet shows any signs of aggression towards our staff, you will be asked to exit the line, and a vaccine will not be administered.

This will be held in Unit 6 of our facility at 1510 Grandview Avenue.

We are able to provide the DAPPv and FVRCP vaccines free of charge, thanks to a generous grant from our friends at Petco Love. All other vaccines/tests must be paid for at time of service (no cash or check, please).

With a confirmed Distemper case at our shelter, it is more important than ever for us to make these life-saving resources available for our community.

While our kennel staff is effectively deploying methods to curb the spread in our facility, the staff of It Takes A Village Spay & Neuter Clinic is equally committed to providing timely and affordable access to these highly effective, life-saving vaccines.
We are so grateful to the staff throughout this whole animal welfare complex, for the commitment and dedication they exhibit for the animals in our shelter, foster homes, and throughout our community.

February is Responsible Pet Owners Month. While Valentine's Day is for the special human in your life, our pets get the whole month! Because for the whole month, and every minute, who really loves you more than your dog or cat?!

So, throughout this month, be encouraged to stop and take a minute to look at how you meet your animal friend’s needs. Could you look into purchasing a higher-quality food? Are they in need of some essential vaccinations? Do you have an emergency plan if one of them falls ill? Are they microchipped just in case they slip away?

Being a pet owner isn't always easy, but we find it to be one of the most rewarding experiences you can have.🩷

The DAPPv vaccine is considered a core vaccine. It protects against Distemper, Adenovirus, Hepatitis, Parvovirus, and Parainfluenza. Be encouraged to call your vet if you're unsure if your pup is up to date on this very important vaccination.

January is National Train Your Dog Month AND ITAV has renowned dog trainer, Whitney Gray on our team to help you through-- starting with our puppy training class on 1/27!

Born and raised in Iowa, Whitney has years of experience working as head dog trainer and trainer of dog trainers in Des Moines, running her own private training business, and in volunteer work with River as a therapy dog in local nursing homes.

River is Whitney's Behavioral Training Assistant. River comes to ITAV as a retired therapy dog and 2022 National Dock Diving Champion. However, River's most valued talent with ITAV is her ability to "sniff" out negative characteristics and assist her human in discovering the causes of an animal's behavioral issues.

While River won't be working in puppy class, she can often be found "overseeing" the rest of operations.

Our first session of the 6-week puppy class begins Saturday, January 27, from 9:30-10:30am. Small group (only 6 puppies per class) sessions focus on building engagement, learning basic commands and finding solutions to “naughty puppy” behaviors.
This course is offered to puppies under six months of age who are fully up-to-date on Rabies & DAPPV vaccines. Cost for six (1-hour sessions) is $120. That's just $20 per session!

Happy Pawlidays from your friends at ITAV Spay and Neuter Clinic! This holiday season, we want to express our deepest gratitude for being part of our journey to provide a number of invaluable community pet resources that many had found so difficult to access in years past.
