UK may be on to something!😊🤷🏼‍♀️

Well, 4th July is typically known as Independence Day to our American friends. However it's also the date for the general election here in the UK this year. With that in mind, I think this is a fitting reminder of how much better Collies, with their eagerness to please people, their honesty and integrity..their work ethic and ability to work together for the good of all...puts to shame the incompetent, nest feathering idiots who 'run our Country. They'd get my vote any day! :P

I’d like to do a few clinics this fall . If you’ve been thinking about hosting let me know. Most places I need 10 dogs at 350$ per dog. Need broke stock and a couple different size pens.

Stock dogs move sheep and cattle, and they’re indispensable on any ranch. More than 120 stock dogs from all over the U.S. and Canada competed in the Mountain States Stock Dog National Finals this week at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds in Afton.

Here is one for those of us who depend on our cowdogs day in and out, or if you are just getting started with working dogs.

Some very useful advice from Laura Stimatze Working Cowdogs Don't forget about Laura's clinic during the Montana Gathering 2023. Find all the info here: https://artofthecowgirl.com/product/cowdog-clinic-laura-stimatze/

"Set your Cowdog pup up for success! Keep him with you or in a kennel. Letting him run loose un attended will be disastrous! Pups want to work even at an early age. Anything that moves will trigger his working instincts . Horses running , cows in a nearby pasture, neighbor kids on bikes. None of this is safe behavior and causes habits you have to break later. But the number one bad thing is, cars and trucks. A well bred pup is going to try to go to the head to stop what’s moving. That is going to end in a very bad way.

Also don’t expose them to cattle until they are mature and ready. Most pups this is around 10 months to a year. Then start them on stock that is easy. Let them figure out what their job is. Then and only then start putting them on tougher stock. I generally start on small Holstien calves, then to weaned calves, replacement heifers then dry cows. If they make it through that then on to pairs. It takes a brave smart tough dog to work pairs. It’s definitely not all about being tough."

Life has been a little rough lately at CR Stockdogs, but with the help of a little guardian angel encouraging us along… (oh and a big shove by Laura Stimatze😉), Gabe and I stepped out to participate in a Cattledog trial after many months off. This boy was fresh for sure, but we managed to complete the course 2 days in a row and was 3rd in average!

Amazing 🤩
