Eloise On The Porch Her name, of course, was Eloise. My son now has this cow!
(8)

I am a stay at home mom of two, soon to be three, and am hoping to share this beautiful family heirloom tradition that my grandmother began when my cousins and I were very young. Some of my fondest childhood memories include us sitting on her country porch watching storms and fireflies, and predicting the color of cars that would come around and down the bend. She began the tradition of making eac

h of us a patchwork dog, usually from assorted polyester scraps of cloth from whatever she had in her enormous fabric stash. My younger brother, as a baby, called his dog "cow," and forever more they will be "cows" in my family, even though they are quite clearly small dogs. Recently, when my son was born, one of my first thoughts was that he would not receive a cow of his own as my grandmother had passed just before I found out that we were expecting him--I was so upset. However, my mom made an amazing discovery--she found the very first cow that my grandmother ever made, and had since used as her pattern! But, when we found out about "surprise!" number three, I decided to apply myself to learn how to make a patchwork dog from her examples so that my third little one would not be left out. I have found a peace and simple happiness in making these dogs, and would love to share them with your family.
