Horsemanship Class with a twist! Join TEAM CHANCE & help prepare this thoroughbred for his second career, with a goal of competing in Kentucky October 2024. Junior trainers will be invited to join us in Kentucky.

Students will attend classes covering the training curriculum and then be allowed to schedule supervised training sessions with Chance as their schedule allows. They can attend as many classes and do as many training sessions as they’d like at no extra cost (no maximum/minimum requirement). It’s just like having a project horse of your own!

12/8 @ 6PM
12/10 @ 1PM

Follow along as trainers compete for a $1000 cash prize. Trainers select their thoroughbred restarts, and let the games begin!

Here’s how it works…

Trainers have selected their horses and will develop their own training schedules between 12/1 and RRP 2024, working at their (and their horse’s) own pace. The objective is to prepare the horse for its second career. Trainers will be competing their horses at the Retired Racehorse Project Thoroughbred Makeover 2024 in Kentucky, where we will allow the judge to decide which horse earns the title of Tip Top Thoroughbred 2022! Bonus awards will be given for highest selling Thoroughbred & crowd favorite, where you get to vote!

All horses will be available for sale after RRP, so follow along as we blog and lead you through the retraining process with 3 unique horse/trainer combos.

Basic rules…
1. Only the assigned trainer can work directly with a competing horse (ride, lunge, etc). but trainers can select one specific individual to help them on the ground as many times as they’d like throughout the process. This person must be officially named.

2. Trainers must handle their own social media posts on the TTT Challenge page, to keep followers updated about their work with the horse to compete for Crowd Favorite.

3. Horses cannot be overworked, must be treated kindly, and must be physically fit and healthy enough to be doing the job that is asked of them.

4. Trainers should strive to create a well-rounded, easy to live with horse that is doing a job it is happy doing. All horses are individuals. To compete for Best Selling Horse, trainers should expose their horses to trailer loading, vet, farrier, clipping, trail riding, etc. to develop an all-around horse.

5. The TTT will be crowned based on RRP performance. In the case that the competing horses are not all in the same division at RRP, the horse that earns the most points in its division at RRP will be crowned TTT based on the following scale:
1st- 6 points, 2nd- 5 points, 3rd- 4 points, 4th- 3 points, 5th- 2 points, 6th- 1 point, 7th- 1/2 point, 8th- 1/4 point (Multiplied by the number of competitors in the class).

11/11/2023

Big (but very bittersweet) announcement! One of QRF’s favorite ponies, Girls Night Out “Girlfriend” will be retiring from the lesson program today. She has been a staple to our program, taking riders of all different levels to many horse shows and helping so many learn and progress. A top pick for “very first” times on a pony, and a winner in the show ring too, it is with teary eyes that we bid our farewell to this special girl. She will be going on to live her golden years in the perfect home, being spoiled and enjoying trail rides and the easy life. It was an opportunity to perfect to pass up for her, and she deserves the love of one person and a lighter work schedule. We are very lucky that she will still be in CT and we can keep in touch and hear about Girlfriend’s new adventure from her very sweet and loving new home.

Please share your memories of Girlfriend, including any photos or videos, as we send her on her way later this afternoon. Riders are welcome to come say their goodbyes today anytime prior to 3:30 when she will be departing.

It was a great day at our IEA Show today. The sun was shining and the horses couldn’t have performed better. Our Middle and High School teams both finished out the day Reserve Champion. Congratulations to our senior, Emma Raymond, on her senior gift honoring what a great contribution she has been to the barn over the years. Congratulations also to our sportsmanship award winner, Annie Badaracco, who didn’t miss a beat after coming back to the barn after many weeks off due to a (non riding related) ankle injury and was always there to lend a hand. Final congratulations goes out to our Horse of the Day, who earned his riders’ winning points today, Parsnip. Thank you Northbrook Farm for this amazing horse who is for sale or lease and can be tried at QRF.

A TREMENDOUS thank you goes out to all our barn staff, parents, officials, and teammates who were part of such a well run day, and to Cindy from FCE for helping secretary today!

Another exciting announcement! It’s not every day a special young horse like Up to My Ears (2018 gelding by Up to Date Miltoo) crosses your path. He is unbelievably naturally talented but still so eager to please “his people”, which is truly rare. Anyone who has watched Kaitlyn Boggio continue to bring him along knows that she truly brings out the best in him, and he loves her for it. It’s hard to get in the way of a match that perfect, especially when even after a long work day, or on her day off, she wants to spend time with him, not even just riding. Kaitlyn loves the horses first and the sport second, and with talent like “Mikey” (or Noot) has, he deserves someone like that. Up to My Ears is officially off the market… and owned by a syndicate we have developed to allow this team to flourish. We can’t wait to see what KB’s patient ways, connection with this horse, and his ownership being taken over by “The Noot Group” brings to the table in the years to come.

Team QRF had a fun outing at the Old Salem Farm Jumper show yesterday! Kaitlyn Boggio piloted 4 young sale horses around her first official show with us, winning the 1.0 on Simba De Semilly and coming in third on Quality Cruise. In addition, she and 11 year old sale horse Catch Me were 3rd in the 1.10, and then junior rider Eva Berkovich jumped a super 1.10 on her as well. Adult amateur Devyn Looney had beautiful rounds on L’Argent De Semilly in the 1.0 their first time out as they prepare for New England Finals this week together, and Devon LeMoine piloted Simba De Semilly beautifully in the .90 with two clear and precise rounds their first ever show together. Thank you to Allison Valluzzo for the beautiful braids and to the whole team for coming together to make a busy day work! Can’t wait for the next 😍

Want the scoop on today’s Rein or Shine Horse Show?! Check it all out on Hopoti! The best part about this social media platform is that riders can share their own personal experiences and photos on the horses’ pages, for others to see! Horses in training will have posts about their rides etc. from the trainers of QRF. Imagine being stuck away from the barn and logging onto see an adorable picture or update of one of your favorite horses that call QRF home… day instantly made better. 😊

All you have to do is make a rider account (it’s free!) and “favorite” the barn and any of the horses you’d like to follow that are stabled with us. To “add friends” you need the link to their profile, and parents can make accounts that allow for minor children to be a family account linked to theirs, so this is a safe and healthy way to use social media (and… it’s about horses!).

Post your Hopoti link in the comments below ⬇️ so your barn family can add you once they have made an account!

Visit the barn’s hopoti here:

We have a lot to offer the avid equestrian at QRF! We are greatly looking forward to linking up our riders with their horse’s day-to-day routine using this new horsey social platform. To book services, contact Catherine at 860-992-9514 (text or call) and we will approve your booking.
