Good morning everyone! Today is going to be the start of a little tradition we’re going to do from time to time, which will be a Member Spotlight. We’d like to introduce some of our very own, speak to their journey in NAVHDA, and talk about their path! Our first member is our very own Kim Ward!
“I was born and raised in the low country of South Carolina, and always had the outdoors in my heart, hunting deer, then later turkey, then acquired a couple of bird dogs and naturally started shooting quail, so the creation of Broomstraw Kennels came about. While looking for a better line of dog , I found Bella, 3/4 German and with a NAVHDA pedigree. Researching the organization certainly was intriguing, so I joined and attended my first meeting in North Carolina. To my surprise, there was a somber announcement that the founding member whom started the Carolina’s Chapter had died in an accident. Sad day indeed. Fast forward, Bella was my 1st NA and UT and later down the road gave me several breeders awards. By now, I have purchased several more bird dogs with her line, primarily Sharpshooter’s, which lead me to more testing Utility dogs, and the opportunity to attend the 2017 NAVHDA Invitational. If it were not for so many gracious members who become such great friends, coming together to help me train and prepare, some inviting me to Maryland, Georgia, and North Carolina to make this happen I would’ve never had the courage or gained the knowledge; it was a humbling honor, and we passed the test. It felt life altering to say the least, humbling. Currently I host and lead chapter training dates once a month on my property, additional training days take place with friends, and training dogs dogs for people who either test or just want a better hunting companion has been a real honor. I now enjoy ND waterfowl and upland hunts with my well trained dogs using the NAVHDA system. “
Thank you so much for sharing Kim! Here’s her awesome hunting companions! Have a great weekend everyone!
