Your political leanings are moot when it comes to animals in the White House. Presidents Bush, Clinton, Carter, Ford, Kennedy, and Honest Abe to name a few, all had cats in the White House and almost all had first dogs. Gotta love the good ole USA!

We all talk to our dogs and cats, but how much do they actually understand? Researchers note that a dog responding to a word doesn't mean they truly understand its meaning, but we all know they understand affection and food seems to get their attention.

A new study reveals the average dog understands 89 words and phrases, while some know up to 215. Most words include commands, like "sit," and "stay."
