We had a successful trip to New Jersey over the weekend. Not many pictures this time as Blaez was all business and we like to keep things PG around here 😅

Blaez is a great dog, he is a very friendly and happy boy who compliments Erza well! We will be scheduling an ultrasound to confirm pregnancy for around the 12th of next month! Stay tuned!

Erza started her heat last week, we started progesterone testing today, expecting her to be ready likely next weekend using her previous heats as reference.

Well, tomorrow we are heading to New Jersey to meet the stud. This just goes to show how much planning can sometimes just go out the window 😅

As an update, we are still following through with our planned litter between our foundation female, Erza and Tamaskan stud, Blaez. Erza has not yet come into heat but we expect her to come in soon. This litter will be a fall litter at the earliest now.

We will update as things progress further!

2023 Fall outcross litter planned between our foundation female, Erza of Kaiza ("Erza") and Tamaskan Tarheel Lionheart At Greystroke. Puppies are expected October 2023. Puppies will be G1 Tamaskans.

This is an outcross litter. Litter predictions are as follows:
50% chance of Wolf Sable (aw/aw)
50% chance of Fawn Sable (ay/aw)
75% chance of melanistic mask (dark muzzle)

Parents are Embark tested and approximate breed breakdown for puppies from this pairing:
26% Siberian Husky
25% Shikoku Ken
15% German Shepherd
11% Irish Wolfhound
8% Grey Wolf

Note about the wolf content: Due to the timing of Blaez's Embark testing and given his actual pedigree, it is very likely that the wolf content will be dispersed into or between Czechoslovakian Wolfdog and/or Sarloos, as these breeds are prevalent in his pedigree and Embark only recently started including these breeds in their system. Judging by his pedigree, I foresee the wolf content in the puppies coming back significantly lower than the prediction above, and they may very well come back at 0%.

Blaez is a carrier of DM so puppies have a 50% chance of also being carriers as Erza is Clear. Pairing a DM carrier to a clear dog is considered safe. All puppies will be Embark tested at 2 weeks of age, with results returned prior to choosing homes and all DM carriers will be identified. Did you know april is lyme prevention month? Lyme is very prevalent here in New England and it affects dogs similarly to people. Lyme can lead to lethargy, depression, loss of appetite and also cause joint inflammation that can be painful. Left untreated, Lyme Disease can lead to kidney failure and even death. Being in the pet industry, I see many people who do not even consider Lyme when dealing with a dog with these symptoms.

Our oldest Tamaskan, Kaito, was diagnosed with Lyme Disease a few years ago, so we are very aware of the disease here and are always trying to bring awareness!

Our plans to breed Erza this spring have been postponed as she has just come into heat several months earlier than expected (she should have gone into heat in April). Her next heat should put her around July, which will give us more time to make plans and arrangements as well as update her cardiac tests for this year. We had full intentions of having a litter this spring, and had begun making plans, but this is far too soon to realistically continue with these plans at the current time. So we will push our plans for a late summer litter instead. We will be sure to update when a suitable stud is chosen so that we can begin taking applications this spring.

We have decided to continue with a second litter for Erza in the spring, to make the best use of her genetics for the Tamaskan breed. We do have hesitant plans for a stud, but we are going to wait until they are more finalized before we begin taking applications. But in the meantime, we are completing her annual testing.

She did wonderfully at the OFA eye clinic today and her eyes are good 😊
