Thank you Boehringer Ingelheim for an amazing CE event that our staff was able to attend. We learned so much and then got to spend the rest of the day at Six Flags New England where everyone got to reboot and recharge with some rollercoasters! We return refreshed and excited to implement our learning in taking the best care of our patients. 🫶🐶🐱🐾

Your Daily Pancake: Our Vet, , gave Pancake the VIP treatment while being monitored all day yesterday for any negative reactions to her first heartworm treatment. It’s safe to say that she felt at home. Lol!
I can’t even begin to explain how much it means to us that the staff loves our little Pancake as much as we do. They made this whole process suck a little less…and that’s a really big deal.
Pancake is doing great. She’s on painkillers and sedatives, but is still enjoying looking out the front window…always on alert to see her favorite dog buddies. Yesterday begins the 3 month process of major activity restriction for little P. Absolutely no elevated heart rate. Which means no house visitors, no walks, no chasing birds & squirrels in the backyard. We got this Pancake!

Pancake is not feeling the best so she’s getting the five star treatment 🥹 we love our Pancake!!

RABIES PSA- Rabies is 100% fatal to animals and can be fatal to humans if treatment is not sought immediately after exposure. This is why it is a state law to keep your pets vaccinated. We recently had an exposure to a positive rabies case in a kitten. Everyone who was exposed, had to get either the series of vaccinations or their booster. Please keep your pets up to date with their Rabies vaccine and do not approach wildlife. 🦝

Central Hospital treats snake bites!
Last week a dog that was bitten by a venomous snake, presumably a copperhead, while hiking at Sleeping Giant Park was carried to safety by first responders and brought directly to our emergency department for care.

Our emergency team administered Antivenin, aka Antivenom. He was hospitalized for treatment including beneficial hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) to facilitate the healing process and was discharged a couple days later.

HBOT is very helpful in the treatment of all kinds of wounds and medical conditions. Currently, we are the only veterinary hospital in the state that has BOTH Antivenin and Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy available. Learn more about HBOT here- https://buff.ly/3Xu1w1N

Connecticut is home to TWO types of venomous snakes, the more commonly seen Eastern Copperhead and the less common Timber Rattlesnake.

This is something most people don’t think about but could absolutely happen. This also applies to dogs who wear collar in their kennels. Freak accidents happen and we wouldn’t want this to happen to any one of our clients. ❤️
