Answering your questions about canine anxiety!
Thunder = a rough morning
Wish isn't as bad as she used to be since going deaf but Boomer is not a fan of the big sky booms.
As soon as the thunderstorm warning pops up we go into support mode.
This morning it looked like getting Boomer to stop spinning and barking at the bottom of the stairs by calling him up. Normally our thunder bunker is the basement but where he was already stressed down there we had to change his scenery.
The next best place is the master bathroom. We got the fan running and used the phone to play brown noise to help mask the sound.
Boomer's favorite way to check in is a chin target because he loves the scratches. This allows us to check how overwhelmed he is. If he can target he's not completely in his head so we can work through his fear together a bit.
Nyssa sat on the floor to provide reassurance in the ways each pup prefers. Wish is a fan of belly and ear rubs. Boomer prefers his chest and neck to be pet. He eventually settled in and sat in her lap. That would have never happened when he first came home. When he was scared his instinct was to lash out not accept help.
He eventually went and relaxed on his own. No spinning. No barking. No whining. Just a dog hanging out on a towel.
