Sometimes, you have to make a mess to make things better! My hubby is working hard tonight to help me get the bath situation for comfortable for us AND your pet! He customizing this grate to fit in the bottom of my claw foot tub. We use this tub for small to medium sized dogs, and are looking forward to being able to get them lifted up out of the water and off the cold bottom of the tub.

The Groom Room will be open today. However, out of an abundance of caution, the door will remain locked. Please knock on the door, or call us (if the dryers are running we won’t hear a knock), when you arrive, so that we can let you in. For those uncomfortable with coming in today, we will waive late cancellation fees, as long as you call or text us and let us know, and will reschedule asap. As we are closed on Mondays, the plan is to reschedule on either this coming Monday, or the following one.

We have two last minute bath appointments open for tomorrow
9:15 and 2:00. Anyone want to get their pup in? This would include bath, blow dry, brushing, nail trim, ear cleaning, and possibly very basic trimming of feet, face, sanitary area, etc.

We’re getting things DONE today!!

Bishop says I need to get bigger couch in the shop. The one in the entry way is MUCH more his size! (Just to clarify, we did lock the door while he was here, just in case the door got opened)

Sisu and Tucker are both puppies (6 months and 1 year old, respectively). They were both beautifully behaved on the table, as long as the other wasn’t roaming the floor; in which case, they got really excited and wanted to play. We decided to give them both a little break, and they decided they were going to be best friends! So sweet!

We affectionately call this sweetheart our spaztastic psycho (with mom’s full approval). The first time she came to us, we used 2 tethers on her, and 2 people were still BARELY able to keep her in the tub just long enough to hose her down with a little bit of shampoo and then rinse. Today, she is still held with 2 tethers , and it took 2 of us to get her into the tub, and to get her nails trimmed, but what she is getting is this video is a conditioner treatment, which is standard for most of our clients, but a first for her. It has taken a lot of discussions and planning with mom, regular 6 week appointments, and a lot of patience, but it is paying off! We do love this happy girl, and are so happy to see her starting to understand that we are trying to help her, not torture her.

The Story

Welcome to The Groom Room, my name is Bethany. I am a single mother, middle school teacher, school bus driver, and animal lover. I started my journey as a pet groomer by grooming my own pets, including a dog, cats, and guinea pigs (yes, they need grooming too...nail trims and haircuts for the ones with long hair). While living in State College, PA, and a single mother of a preschooler and a toddler, a friend and fellow animal enthusiast suggested that I apply to the grooming department of the local, newly opened, Petco. I applied, and was hired on, as a bather/brusher, with the understanding that I would be promoted to groomer, upon completion of grooming school and demonstration of an acceptable skill level. I enrolled in, and passed, grooming certification through a correspondence course, and was mentored by the head groomer in the salon. Due to disagreement with management, and a move to a different town, I left Petco and went to work in a private grooming shop closer to home. While racing with the kids one day (I was much younger then) I fell and SERIOUSLY sprained my wrist, and was unable to groom for a number of months. Skip to today, and that preschooler and toddler are now 20 and 18, and there are 2 more in the mix. I love my teaching job, but it is at a small non-profit christian school, and our family of 6 requires more income than it provides.
