Don’t forget, you can practice obedience anywhere! We didn’t get a lot of play time in today so after classes tonight, Otto and I played some retrieve games with our trusty tennis ball then some sit-down-sit and recall… thanks in part to a conveniently empty garage!
As you practice your new skills, the more places and situations you practice in, the more accustomed you and your dog will become to using those skills!
Remember, change happens with set expectations, clear communication, and rewarding our dogs when they get it right with praise, affection and tokens of gratitude (for Otto tonight it was the jerky stick I had in my pocket leftover from class!)
Keep the dedication to making your bond with your dog better and stronger , so proud of everyone making so much progress already!!
Otto says get your sillies out while you can, it’s back to school tonight for Class Two!
We are going to warm up with the same exercises as last week and will be introducing down and release tonight as well!
We are also going to test our lure from the squares to a straight line 🐾
Remember, bring treats, toys, water dish and wear comfortable clothes and shoes!
Otto is dreaming about orientation tomorrow night!
As a reminder, handlers are to come without their puppies and dogs for orientation as we are going to focus on course review and answering questions. Otto has volunteered to demonstrate cues, behaviors, and skills that we will be covering throughout the course.
Puppies we will see you at 600 🐶
Dogs we will see you at 700 🐕
We introduced the Recall Game tonight and boy did we have fun!
Thanks to Gwen in our adult dog class for sharing the video below, it’s an excellent example of A: just how excited and engaged you want your dog to be for recall and B: just how important it is for them to sit once they reach you (and if you haven’t met a boxer, they LOVE their people!)
Have a great rest of your week handlers, enjoy this weather with your dogs!!
