The ghost of Lebombo, one of only three white lions in the wild, makes an appearance again!

The white Shishangaan male lion Casper and his three brothers rule supreme in their territory. They’ve been with the Satara pride, a rather big pride with seven adult lionesses, for over a year now and successfully sired cubs with them (although no white cub yet).

When the seven Southern pride males settled south-east of them concerns rose quickly that a clash of both coalitions would be inevitable, with the four Shishangaan males being at a clear numerical disadvantage. No such thing has happened so far. Instead the Southern pride males spend most of their time on the H6 between Shishangeni waterhole and N‘wanetsi picnic spot. Them staying stationary gives their now well over one year old offspring in the Southern pride a much higher chance to reach adulthood. Additional to that the status of the coalition is not entirely clear. More than a year has passed since all seven males have been spotted together. These days there are rarely seen more than three of them together, five males at the maximum on very seldom occasions. It’s possible that the coalition has split although it can not be ruled out that they meet up from time to time during night.

That’s something that doesn’t hold true for the Shishangaan males. The coalition benefits from a rather strong cohesion. Most of the time all four brothers are seen patrolling or happily snoozing together.
