Say hello to lovely April 🖤🤍
This sweet mama was brought to us when she showed up in a kind woman’s yard one day with two newborn babies in tow. When she realized how sweet and loving April was she knew that they did not belong outside! We took them in and April spent a few weeks in foster nursing her babies. She did an amazing job raising her babies and now it’s her turn to find a home of her own!
April is a petite girl with so much love to give. She’s confident in new situations and loves to meet new people and other kitties. She’s always ready to greet you with a chirp and lots of purrs as soon as her cage door is opened. April would make a great addition to just about any home!

There’s no denying it: cat naps are the best naps! Just ask Flora…
Miss Flora is definitely a girl with personality and the opinions to go along with it! She’s a sweet, energetic girl that loves to play, wants to be with her people and likes her space all at the same time. When she gets to free roam she’s in constant motion and has to know everything that’s going on. She’s also extremely food motivated and she might even enjoy learning a few tricks, when she’s in the right mood of course.
She really is a wonderfully silly cat with antics to spare.
Flora will want to be the only Apple of her forever home family’s eye, but she will give that love right back to whoever chooses her. Apply now at rbari.org/cats
Tiny Vera will lose her eye – but her spirit remains strong!
Vera was discovered outside in Paterson, emaciated, dehydrated and suffering from a severe upper respiratory condition. Her infection was so bad that it caused one eye to abscess and the other to be covered in ulcers. At 8-weeks-old, Vera weighed only a pound - half the size that she should be.
Initially, Vera was unable to eat on her own and had to be syringe fed in foster. Despite antibiotics, her eye ruptured and will require enucleation surgery. Since then, she has been more comfortable, is eating on her own and even playing! In just a few days, Vera gained a half pound.
Vera’s tiny body was overwhelmed with parasites. She is currently on dewormers, antibiotics, and eye medications. Because of her fragile condition, Vera is not yet a candidate for surgery to remove her ruptured eye. Luckily, her eye continues to shrink and does not seem to be bothering her nearly as much as it did before.
Despite everything she has been through, Vera is a happy kitten, always purring and making biscuits even when it's time for her meds! Animals need so very little to be content, and with your support, we can provide Vera the care she has always deserved. Please consider a donation to support Vera, and all the suffering kittens pouring through our doors this kitten season.
Look at Pebble now! 🥹
Our sweetest boy is running into his new life! Foster mom, Emily, shares that Pebble has just recently figured out how to run.
Pebble is SO grateful to YOU, his beloved family of supporters, for giving him a second chance at life. 8-month-old Pebble has been through too much in his short life – passed through owners, struck by a car, denied medical care, then taken home to suffer.
We were so grateful to get the call to help Pebble, honored to provide him with the care that had been neglected as we immediately hospitalized him. Sadly, Pebble’s leg could not be saved, and amputation was the only way to provide him with comfort and mobility. As soon as he woke up from surgery, he was so much more alert, comfortable and happy! Dogs are just amazingly resilient!
These days, Pebble spends his days enjoying long walks and lots of love with his foster mom – the vet tech who rescued him! He gets to go to work with her daily and see all his friends who adore him and have cheered for him, every step of the way.
Thank you YOU for your support in allowing Pathway and RBARI to answer the call for help! To apply to foster / foster to adopt / adopt Pebble, please visit apathwaytohope.org.
Meet Geena!
Our gorgeous girl Geena was found on the streets of Paterson when a good Samaritan scooped her up and brought her to the shelter.
Although she can be wary of strangers, she has been opening up to us more every day. She spends her days making biscuits in her favorite fluffy beds and zooming around chasing her toys.
Since Geena becomes stressed around other cats, she would prefer to be the queen of her home. Geena would require someone with a calm and patient presence, since she can be overwhelmed in new situations. With the right person, Geena will flourish and be a great companion kitty.

A letter from Tofu:
Hi RBARI
It’s been 6 months and I not only learned to use email, but had tons of other cool experiences. My home at RBARI was ok, but I like my new home much better.
I go on tons of hikes. I got to visit a brewery. I made a friend named Panthro. I went swimming yesterday in a pool with 2 other dogs. I saw the eclipse (boring). And I have a super cool yard with lots of toys.
My parents would tell you that I’ve calmed down a bunch, but I’m still pretty creepy when I want to be. (Watch the video with the cement truck!) I do a really good job working in my dad’s studio and don’t even attack the clients. Actually, he tells me I’m a bit too friendly since they apparently need to do work and aren’t just there to play tug of war or throw the ball.
So overall, things are going pretty great and my parents love me. They think that one day I won’t go insane on all motorcycles, scooters, and bikes, but they don’t realize that my main mission in life is to destroy anything with 2 wheels.
Thanks you again for taking care of me and maybe we will see you hiking in the mountains one day.
Meet Grover!
This nervous loyal boy was surrendered when his owner passed away. He was terrified to leave the only home he had ever known but has quickly warmed up and is enjoying all the walks, run, hikes and attention from his favorite staff members. He was severely overweight and tired easily, and was found to be hypothyroid so he’s on an inexpensive medication for life and feels much better now!
Grover lived with 2 women his whole life and wasn’t socialized much to other people so he doesn’t trust strangers especially men. Once he feels comfortable he quickly becomes a cuddly silly boy with his chosen people. He will be distrustful and protective with visitors so needs a lower traffic home where he can be introduced gradually and safely to new people, or put in another room when people come over. He bonds to a female owner very quickly and believes it is his job to protect them from all threats, real or in his mind only so you will very safe with him around. His ideal home would be with just one or possibly 2 women only as that is what he is accustomed to.
Please visit rbari.org to apply to adopt Grover❤️

Meet Linus!Linus is a sweet senior boy who was brought to us from Paterson. Upon arrival, we discovered that he has no teeth, but that didn’t stop him from devouring all the food we provided to him! Living on the streets as a senior cat has been hard on Linus’s body, but his spirits remain high. Linus loves to be around people and is even extremely tolerant of other cats. He enjoys snuggling up in his cozy beds and rolling around in catnip. Linus needs a loving home to spend the remainder of his golden years!Apply now at rbari.org/cats
Bambi is getting ready to go home…
Please help her medical foster family be prepared to care for our little miracle by sending a gift off Bambi’s wish list at: https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/138PRN2X9NKZN?ref_=wl_share
Because of your support, and our vital partnership with Jersey Pits rescue, Bambi has healed enough to be released from the hospital. After being struck by a car, crippling 3 of her legs, Bambi underwent intensive surgery and procedures to save her legs.
She has been hospitalized for a week, healing from a serious fracture requiring a plate, horrific wounds to her legs including a degloving of one leg, and severe lung contusions.
We are happy to report that Bambi is a fighter – her will to survive is incredible. Through your generosity, you have given Bambi the lifesaving care and love she needs to survive. Now, it’s time to watch our beautiful girl thrive in a home!
Please visit jerseypitsrescue.com to submit an application to adopt Bambi once she is recovered.
Let’s go for a hike with Zoey!
Zoey is still searching for her perfect shepherd loving person/people! Zoey is only about 2-3 yrs old and loves to hike, play, and even swim sometimes! She loves most other dogs her size or bigger. She likes to play rough so we wouldn’t trust her around small dogs. She’s definitely got the protective shep personality and will require several meets to bond with a new person. It doesn’t take much, but it’s something to always work on as she will likely show protective behaviors towards strangers and territorial behaviors of “her” home and space.
She would benefit from a strong handler and a good training regiment. She’s very smart and needs plenty of mental stimulation. Once Zoey bonds to you, she’s so sweet and very affectionate. She’ll make the perfect companion for the right home❤️
Zoey has spent the majority of her life in the kennel… we’d like to get her out and turn her life around❤️

Eleanor is checking in…
…to let you know that she is feeling good – and, to please spay / neuter your pets and community cats!
Eleanor had never been spayed or received medical care upon rescue. Because of this, she was suffering from an infected uterus, which is a fatal condition without surgery. It is only with your support that we were able to say yes to saving Eleanor without hesitation.
These days, Miss Eleanor is doing exceptionally well. She’s eating great, in good spirits and described as a “doll baby” who is incredibly sweet and affectionate, as you can see!
Eleanor’s plight illustrates the importance of spay / neuter in our community. Our goal at RBARI is to break the cycle as we decrease the number of animals, like Eleanor, who face suffering and even death, simply for lack of basic medical care. You can help community cats through direct care and supporting spay / neuter initiatives.
Because of YOU, Eleanor has a second chance at living her best life! As a part of our Community Pets program, Eleanor will be available soon for adoption at the Montclair Animal shelter.

Longtime RBARI resident Zoey has found a quick playmate in Stella while they continue to search for their forever families!
Smart, athletic, playful, protective, and loyal - our leggy beauty Zoey possesses all the qualities of a German Shepherd, with just a dash of some other type of breed mixed in to give her a more petite build. She’s had some training, knows sit, paw, other paw, and down, and is eager to learn just about anything you want to teach her. She’s food motivated, loves car rides, long walks and runs, and mostly just loves being with her people. Like most shepherds, she thinks its her job to protect her loved ones, and it takes time for her to warm up to new people She will need someone committed to continuing to socialize and train her. Zoey is 45lbs full grown and we think under 2 years old, has been spayed and updated on shots. Zoey’s adoption will require multiple meet and greets at the shelter.
Stella is a timid but sweet pup with stunning crystal blue eyes. She warms up quickly and then is a fun playful pup, very dog-friendly, and will be a great companion for a family that wants to include her in their adventures and activities. She was found by a Good Samaritan hiding under a car a few months ago, but they were unable to keep her unfortunately. Stella is 35lbs right now at 6-7 months old and we think will grow to be a medium sized dog. A shelter is no place for a puppy to grow up, and we are hoping to get her into a home very soon!

Meet Sesame!
Before arriving at the shelter, Sesame was one of many stray cats in Paterson. She was trapped and brought to the shelter, where we discovered that her fur had been growing into her collar, which left a mark around her neck.
Sesame is a goofy girl who loves rolling around in catnip, playing with her mouse toys, and hanging out in her cat tree. Sesame prefers to be the queen of her home, without other cats to take the attention away from her. She also likes things mostly on her terms and will let you know with a meow when she has had enough pets. Overall, Sesame is a sweet girl who enjoys her space but will also accept pets from her people.

Meet the latest addition to our Adoption Center team: Waffles the Work-break Bringer!
As Waffles awaits adoption of his own, he’s become quite helpful in one area: reminding us that sometimes, we need to stop working, grab a nice snack for Waffles (and ourselves, though he cares less about that), and take a break from staring at the screen.
His system is simple: keyboard squats. While simultaneously building up rear leg strength, Waffles is happy to put to end to whatever important thing we may be working on - and simply place his cute toosh on our keyboard. Guess we need to take the rest of the day off - Waffle’s orders. Looking for a built in break reminder for your home office? Look no further!
Waffles came to us terrified, severely matted and with eyes painfully crusted. After a vet visit and a grooming he’s a new man! He has chronic dry eye that had gone untreated for so long it caused some permanent scarring and he does have reduced vision so sometimes gets nervous with new people and fast movements but bonds quickly and then he’s a silly velcro dog.
He loves sitting on your desk chair with you while you are working and would be the perfect home office companion. We think he’s about 5 years old and is 17lbs full grown, some sort of cockapoo/terrier mix is our best guess. He’s a good boy for his prescription eye drops which he will need for life and is looking for a home that will keep up with his medical and grooming needs.
Please submit an application to meet him at rbari.org/dogs
