This safety week is important to me because if I wasn’t wearing my helmet when I came off of a horse last year then I might not be here to type this today!

This safety week I urge you all to protect yourselves while riding! One of my longtime partners has been Samshield and I’m so grateful for their support over the years. Wearing their helmet saved my life. Thank you Samshield for keeping myself, my team, and fellow equestrians as safe as possible!

It’s been a tough year of recovery for me. I am so Thankful and Grateful to my family & owners /friends who have been by my side through it all. I finally got partial clearance to ride again mid circuit. I am so proud of how this young mare stepped up for me. My Irons Glitter Winning in her USEF/WEC hunter debut 🏆 and continued high placings in tough classes over the following 3 weeks!!!
So excited for the future!!!

I am not good at words when it comes to loss, but my grandpa always knew what to say. That’s the thing, my grandpa had a way of always knowing how to connect with everyone he crossed paths with.

Growing up and still to this day it is hard for me to spend an entire day at the horse show without at least one person asking; “How’s your grandpa doing?” or “What’s Al been up to lately?”

Although my grandpa had many many accomplishments in life, he kept it no secret how proud he always was of my moms success. Whether it was making it around with time faults on a young horse or winning a big Grand Prix, he always couldn’t wait to hear how every single one of moms rounds had gone the previous week. As a kid, I didn’t understand why he was so honed in on what my mom was up to, but I understand it now. My grandma Marlo was the love of my grandpas life, but my mom was the light of my grandpas life.

Last year on my grandpas birthday, I called, sang to him, then proceeded to have a really nice heart to heart. I asked him if there was anything left that he would really love to do. His answer was no. His reasonings?
- He had the most amazing life partner he could have ever asked for, my grandma Marlo.
- He served our country in WWII.
- He got to watch his kids grow up and have beautiful families of their own.
- He was able to make it over to Rome to watch my mom compete internationally.
- He was was proud of himself that up until he was 95, he was still able to shoot hoops with the kids, do his daily sit ups/push ups, and work Facebook better than I can.

Loss is never easy, but rather than saying goodbye…I’d like to say see you later, grandpa. I love you and am proud to be your granddaughter. Until we meet again 💕

Another great week concluded for the Candice LLC team! Yahtzee and Julia Wiley finished up the High Adults with 8th, 8th and a 2nd in the classic. A few horses showed for the first time and a few moved up with success! The jumpers put in great clear rounds - BIJOU DU COMET 8th, Salsa Moon 5th & 8th, Casella 4th, Karakter 5th and Domino Normandy 2nd & 6th. And in the 2’ hunters the adorable 4yr old pony BBS Prince Charming received a well deserved 8th!

Another great week at WEC for the Candice LLC team! Daxibus Normandy, Cliff Affair and Sibon Clover moved up and had some great trips with Candice in the Future Prix at night under the lights! ES Stylin piloted by Candice received 1st and 3rd in the Green Hunter 3’6”/3’9” and had a beautiful trip in the Hunter Derby. Callestio moved up to the 3’ young hunters earning a 5th and 7th. The young stallion Katapult was 5th in the jumper ring, while Nieaka and Casella both had 2nd place rounds. Julia Wiley and Yahtzee won the Low Adult jumpers and got 2nd in the classic earning Reserve Champion! And that was just some of the team action!!!

Another great day at WEC! Started the morning off great trip and ribbon with ES STYLIN in the very competitive 3' Hunter Derby. Followed by several clean rounds in the jumper rings; Domino Normandy earning 1st, Katapult - 5th and Nieaka - 5th. Alex King also had a great clear round on Hoover for 4th!

Let’s Get Candid during this holiday weekend🦃🍁 One of the things I have been thankful for is some great equine partners that were stallions. Stallions tend to get a bad wrap, but with the proper handling and education…stallions can be the ones who fight for you rather than against you in and out of the show ring. Throughout my career I have had some phenomenal stallions who helped to keep me at the top of the sport and I believe I was able to achieve this by making sure to provide all of the horses I train with the same foundation and tools they need to be confident and successful. Let’s Get Candid at WEC!!! A part of my training program is making sure my horses mental health is just as much of a priority as their physical health. To keep my horses performing at their best I make sure to incorporate experiences outside of the ring as often as possible. When doing activities like water work or field work I am developing a deeper connection with my partner, building their confidence and teaching them that no matter where I ask them to put their feet they will be safe. This type of education translates to a horse that is mentally healthy and more confident when performing for me in the ring.
