Goodmorning from sweet Willow! 💖Our little girl was delivered here at NVH two weeks ago and is doing wonderfully! Willow was born with a cleft lip, a congenital condition where the upper lip has split due to incomplete tissue fusion during fetal development. While this can present challenges, with the right medical care, most pets go on to achieve normal function.🙌🏽🤩

🐶Over the weekend, one of our furry friends got into something they shouldn’t have at family dinner.
Photo 1: 🌽A corn on the cob that a pet managed to get ahold of. Corn on the cobs can be a serious choking hazard or cause intestinal blockages in pets.
Photo 2: 🪢A stuffed toy the pet was playing with. It’s always important to supervise pets with toys, as they can sometimes chew off and swallow small parts, leading to health risks.
Keep eyes on your pets, especially during gatherings or celebrations. 🎊

Zoey was diagnosed with pyometra and had life saving surgery to remove her infected uterus. She is doing great and is expected to make a full recovery. ❤️🩹
Pyometra is a severe uterine infection that typically affects middle-aged to older unspayed females. It typically occurs a couple days to a couple of weeks after a heat cycle. Clinical signs include excessive drinking (early), depression, lethargy, anorexia, and a swollen abdomen. To prevent a pyometra it’s recommended to spay your pet before it gets too old. You can spay as early as 6 months old. 🐶🐈

❗️If you spot a Bufo toad in your yard or while out for a walk with your pet, keep your pet at a safe distance and do not allow them to investigate or interact with the toad.
🐸Signs of Bufo toad poising in pets can include drooling, vomiting, seizures,etc.🐸

But, the good news is, heartworm disease is preventable. Let’s ensure our pets receive the necessary preventative care to keep their hearts healthy. 🩵 🪱 🐾

Heartworm disease is a serious and potentially fatal condition caused by worms (Heartworms) that live in the heart, lungs, and blood vessels of infected pets.
2) How does Heartworm Prevention Work? 💊
Heartworm prevention medications work by targeting the immature larvae (microfilaria) before they mature into adult heartworms. These medications come in various forms such as chewable tablets, topical solutions, and injections.💉
Keep up with your pet’s annual check up to keep up to date with their health through blood tests and exams. 🐕

🐀 Be Aware Of Rat Bait Toxicity 🐀
Did you know that common rat baits containing bromethalin and anticoagulant can be extremely toxic to pets? 
Bromethalin Poisoning:
•Signs include tremors, seizures, paralysis, loss of coordination, hind limb weakness, vomiting and diarrhea.
Anticoagulant Poisoning:
•Signs include lethargy, pale gums, bruising, (if internal bleeding), blood in vomit, urine or stool.
⏳Time is critical in treating poisoning cases. Call your vet or an emergency clinic right away! 🩺 🐈 🐕

Be Aware of the Dangers: Grapes & Chocolate
As much as we love spoiling our furry friends, there are certain foods that can be extremely harmful to them. Two of the most common culprits? Grapes and Chocolate!
🍇 Grapes and Raisins, even the small amounts, have been known to cause kidney failure in dogs. Symptoms may include vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, and decreased appetite.
🍫 Chocolate contains substances called theobromine and caffeine, which are toxic to dogs. The darker the chocolate, the greater the danger.
