Northwoods is in need of foster homes!
Fostering is a highly rewarding experience and most of our volunteers who try it once, are hooked!
What being a foster involves:
*Foster assignments can be anywhere from a couple of weeks to 2+ months. You will need to plan on bringing them in possibly every few weeks when vaccines are due.
*You decide what you can reasonably foster (orphaned kittens, moms with kittens, adult cats/dogs, moms with puppies).
*We supply all food, litter, puppy pads, etc.
* You don't need to be home all day with them, they just need some time set aside for socializing each day.
*You will likely fall in love MANY times and bringing them back is bittersweet but you just have to know that they are better prepared for their new family because of you! (Plus you'll likely have a new litter to turn your attention to.)
Our biggest need right now is pregnant cats (or with newborn kittens), adult cats/dogs who are having a hard time being at the shelter and moms with puppies. The latter seems to be the hardest for people to commit to because the majority of the dogs are coming from the south so nothing is known in regards to if they're housetrained, get along with other animals, how many puppies they may have so it is a bit of a leap of faith. It helps to have a comfortable area in your home, weather controlled garage or pole barn that would be specifically for them until you learn more about their personality as time goes on.
