If you harvest a nice buck that you want to have mounted my suggestion is to hang the deer by its hind legs skin it down as close to the head as possible and cut the neck off and bring us the whole deer hide to us and we will cape it out for mounting. Please don't attempt to cape the deer yourself let us , do it. Be carefull not to split the brisket , when gutting the deer split the belly up to the sternum a couple more inches past this is ok but no more. Whatever you do don't cut the throat. The most important thing is to be safe and have fun. I will be open to take deer in from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm each day and a hour after dark. Telecheck the deer before bringing it to us and have the confirmation number with you. Any questions call us at 417-399-5767

Opening weekend in Missouri is this weekend
If you harvest a deer in a CWD area you have to take your deer to a mandatory testing station. To do the testing they make a nasty cut in the throat of the deer. If you are planning to have the deer mounted you need to let them know what your intentions are and they will give you a pass on the testing.
If for some reason you failed to notify them in time you can still get your trophy mounted, any reputable taxidermist can fix anything but the worst hatchet job or they can get a replacement cape for you. This is at an additional charge of course as it requires more work or the cost of acquiring a replacement cape.
The simple solution is to notify the workers at the checking stations of your attentions as soon as you arrive doing so may even get you on your way sooner.
Now to tell you what I think of the entire CWD controversy would require a different and considerably longer post. Good luck hunters and keep safe.

People often call claiming to have caped the deer they shot when in fact all they did is skin it. Please don't try to cape a deer you bring us at Truman lake taxidermy that's something I will do and I'll make sure it gets done right. I advise people to hang the deer by its hind legs and skin it down being careful not to split the brisket and bring the whole hide to us at Truman Lake Taxidermy.

This shows how I do ears it's not uncommon for their to be a RIP in the thin ear skin but no big deal with the finished product you can't tell it ever had a RIP the one step I didnt show is ruffing up the earlier and putting glue on it with red tinted paint. I also paint over it with a touch of white after drying.

Had a customer cape a deer out . I usually just chuckle caping is what I do after they leave. Every once in awhile someone actually tries to do just that cape one out and almost everytime they create more work for me. This customer actually did fairly well
But they split down the back I use a short Y incision so I turned it inside out and pre-sewed it after trimming for the ragged cut which shortened the cape 1 inch.

I am going to have some contests to give customers opportunities to save money on quality mounts. The first is a, ‘guess the score contest’, on a monster buck taken by my good friend Vernon Ullrich in Ozark Missouri in 2018. The person who guesses the score closest in inches both gross and net and likes and shares the page will get 50% off a full shoulder deer mount for themselves or an immediate family member for a deer harvest in the 2019-20 deer season. I am charging $450.00 this year so that is a savings of $225.00 You must also put your guess both for gross and net in remarks on the page.
I will even give you a couple of hints. The tip to tip measurement is 11 and 7/8 the greatest spread is 20 1/8 the buck has 6 scorable points on the right antler and 9 scorable points on the left antler. The first circumference of the left antler is a whopping 6 0/8.
I am an official scorer for both, Missouri Show-Me Big Bucks and Archery Big Bucks of Missouri, if you need to have a buck scored, I would be happy to do it for you. their is never a charge for scoring antlers.
I will have more contests with opportunities to save money in the coming weeks so stay tuned. Remember you must like and share the page to be entered I will post a copy of the official score sheet after the 2019-20 season has concluded on January 15.

I am a registered scorer for Missouri Show-me big bucks and Archery Big Bucks of Missouri the only one in St.Clair county. All scorers are volunteer we never charge for our services. I would be happy to score a buck for you if you need it.
I am not a registered scorer for Boone and Crocket or Pope and Young but can put you in touch with someone that is if you need it. It cost a lot to get registered and certified to be a scorer for those clubs. I may try to do that at some point but not now. my number is 417-399-5767
