We would like to introduce everyone to Indy! Indy is a heeler/German shepherd mix puppy being fostered through Misfit Mutts Dog Rescue. Indy suffers from a rare condition called “Swimmers Syndrome”. This causes his back legs to be splayed and unusable… until now!!
Happy boy Indy has just recently started his hydrotherapy journey and has already made leaps and bounds! He is now starting to use his rear end not only in the pool, but at home too! His dedicated foster mom pours all her time and love into this little guy and it sure shows! He knows no other life than this, so his spirits are just as high as any other dog!
Indy will need to continue hydrotherapy along with at-home therapy for the foreseeable future in hopes of gaining rear mobility. He requires special supplies at home and his rescue has set up an Amazon wishlist for him (https://smile.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/21OJER621OO26/?ref_=lol_ov_le). We also will be accepting donation swims in Indy’s name so he can keep on making progress! Both single paddles and packages are available. A huge thank you to Jessica with Yukon and Kevin for donating his first package! If you’d like to follow more of Indy and his journey, check out his Instagram (https://instagram.com/indy_racerpup?utm_medium=copy_link)!
We look forward to sharing his progress with everyone!
Meet Ralph. He is a Pyrenees mix that came to us looking to learn how to swim and burn off some much needed energy. Ralph also has previous injuries so he needed to strengthen his legs. Swimming is the best way to get back into top physical shape without re-injuring himself. At first he was very hesitant of the water and after a few sessions he is addicted to the pool! We are so excited to be a part of his journey!
Not all dogs need to play fetch to enjoy swimming. Some dogs just enjoy splashing around in the water just like kids do.
Truman here is one of those dogs. He loves coming to the pool just to swim around and jump off the ramp. He spends the whole visit in the water having the time of his life. The smile on his face tells you everything!!!
Look at Porter go!! He is a great example of the other side of work we do here at The Doggie Paddle! Rehabilitation swims are a big part of our schedule and we love each one that comes in!
Porter came to us after he started favoring his back leg and was losing muscle. After a few months of no improvement and scratching our heads (owner, veterinarian, and us), Porter was diagnosed with a cruciate tear in his bad leg. We are continuing to swim him up until his repair surgery, and once it’s time, we will also be helping him in his rehab!
Porter is just one of many of our rehab dogs, if you are seeing this and you’ve also done rehab or senior swims with us, drop a picture in the comments and tell us your story!
If you are looking to book a swim, we do have a few openings left for this weekend! You can schedule at www.doggiepaddlewi.com
Meet Lou! He is a Rottweiler that loves to play Fetch for Mom, EVEN BETTER when it’s in the water!!
No Rottweiler’s are not typical water dogs!! But the power of toy drive and a brother who is a Golden Retriever helped Lou learn to love to swim!!
Just a reminder we have a few spots open for this weekend yet. So if you have been thinking about trying your dog out sign them up and make an appointment.
