Harper is having a hard time here and is in need of a foster or adoptable home. Harper is starting to act out while being put back into his kennel by showing he is displeased, and we are worried if this goes on for too long, he will get worse and act out poorly without meaning to cause harm.
Meet Harper,
Harper is a sweet, affectionate, smart, playful, people centered dog. He is full of energy and when that runs out, he wants to be right where you are, your lap or sprawled out on the floor by your chair. But he doesn't like being separated from his people. He knows how to sit and will chase a bouncing ball, but not fond of one that needs chasing, yet
Harper is crate trained and potty training is nearly there. He needs reminding before coming inside, understands the phrase "go outside to go potty", will go by the door sometimes, but no attention getting behaviors. If he goes out regularly, he is good. Even for 9 hours overnight. Basically, if taken out regularly, no problems. If he is not taken out and is not watched, eventually there may be an accident.
Harper is still very new to car rides and is anxious and vocal in the car. He also can have an accident or upset tummy quickly from his anxiousness in a car.
Any leash, chest harness, or securing method needs to be out of teeth range or needs to be plastic (PVC/Nylon) coated steel. If he gets wrapped up or doesn't want to be tied the chewing begins and he quickly is through even thick nylon.
Harper is good with other dogs when playing. If housed with another, he has shown herding tendencies and some resource guarding. He has not been around cats or kids during his stay in foster or at the shelter and might be best as the only pet in the household. He also likes to "mouth"/"play chew" when playing but does not get aggressive intentionally during this, but he doesn't realize he has sharp teeth!
Harper needs a fenced yard, at least until he can be trained to stay in an alternatively secured yard. He doesn't listen when anything else has his attention. Obedience training would benefit all involved.
He does not like to be separated from his people. If he stays inside and his people are outside he will do all he can to get to them. He has not shown destructive behavior, but when his people are outside he does whatever he can to try to get their attention and to see them (jumping up to look out windows regardless of blinds, shades, curtains). So he has not been left out of his crate when alone in the house for more than a few minutes, so his home alone behavior is unrated.
Overall Harper is a sweet, lovable, loyal dog who would thrive best in a home as the only dog, with a fenced yard, and his people around most of the day. He is full of potential.
He is current on all his age appropriate vaccines, micro-chipped and neutered.
