With waterfowl season underway, I want to let everyone know that I have decided not to take in any birds for mounting this year. I am also not taking in any fish. This change is an effort to get more caught up. Also with long tannery turnaround times and high shipping costs I am going back to more in house tanning which is time I can't be putting mounts together. If you have a bird or fish here it will still be completed. There are also a number of clients who have ongoing projects where I will take in a bird or fish, but it will be limited. I don’t like to turn down work or disappoint anyone, so please accept my apologies in advance.

Bear season started a little slow, but seems to be picking up. I have the majority of my rugs done from last year, but am just starting to get to some 1/2 and shoulder mounts.

I learned recently they don't hang by their tail much if at all, but kind of a neat way to display one of these.

Keeping busy in the shop, still running behind, but making progress. Setting up an elk mount for tomorrow. I sculpt the ear muscles in clay and let them set up overnight to hold their shape whilst I slip them into the skin. Did you know the ear muscles change shape depending on their position? I typically like ears somewhat back on an elk, but am doing forward on this one to mix it up a little. I also made detachable antlers on this one. Makes it way easier to transport and hang. I drill out from beneath the skull plate and into the center of the antler. A peice of square tubing gets cemented into the antler. Finally I cut the antlers off at the bases. Reattachment is just a matter of placing the solid square stock into the tubing for the exact fit. Now it's time to push a little snow!

Got 2 of the bigger 1/2 mounts from last year on forms this week. The bear on the left was a large dry sow with really nice hair. The big guy on the right lived through some serious trauma during his life. My guess is he probably broke his leg badly enough that it eventually fell off, but I guess we'll never know. I had two bears from last year with missing limbs. Off to a pretty brisk bear season so far. A dozen have been across my fleshing table so far.

I haven't posted anything in quite a while. Going through my phone pictures this was the first neat photo I had. Mounted him up earlier in the year. I send the majority of my skins out for tanning. This year I didn't get the bulk of them back until early August. I'm working on deer and bear from last year as well as some fish and birds that need to get done. I'm trying to keep return times under a year, however I am falling a bit behind right now on some things, but there is light at the end of the tunnel and I'm getting closer to it. If you need a taxidermist this fall, my business line 320-219-0608 also takes text messages which sometimes gets to me sooner than a voice-mail if I'm not able to pick up right away. Good luck hunting and fishing

This is the 3rd remount I've taken in this week. Lots of plaster and wood. I pull em apart outside so as not to breath in anything bad. I'm pretty critical of my own work, but I give alot of credit to the taxidermists that had to do a lot more work to get a mount together in the past. All the hair is there and you can tell what it is. Very grateful for modern day forms.

Kudos to Wisconsin for having a wolf hunt. Quota met in two days. Do we have too many wolves? I think so, they need management. Excited to get this one in today. Going to make a great mount that I understand will be placed at Hummers Rendezvous in Grantsburg.

I've been working on birds the last couple weeks. This year I collected 32 lymph node samples for CWD testing in MN. They all came back clean. They paid me $10 per sample. Got my check today. I'm going to use it for wildlife habitat improvements around the shop.
