🔥🔥EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING! 🔥🔥
It's been extremely hot the past few days/weeks and it won't be letting up until the weekend. Today will hit over 100 degrees so lets make sure that you're not only keeping yourself safe, but your pets as well. 🐾

🐾We know people like to take their pets with them when they go places but leave them home! The temperature in your car rises quickly and your pets can have a heat stroke within 10 minutes when left in the car. Do not risk it and keep them at home!

🐾Limit walks to 10 minutes at maximum when the temperature is above 80. Check the sidewalks and pavement they will be walking on first. Place your hand on the pavement for 10 seconds. If it becomes too hot for you, its too hot for your pet to walk on as well.

🐾After walks, check each paw pad and wipe them. Its common for pets to hide their pain and many owners do not immediately notice the damage done to their pets paw pads until later.

🐾Keep your pets busy inside by making them frozen kongs to work on, puzzle bowls, games throughout the house!

🐾If you notice your pet is experiencing any Heat Stroke symptoms, take them to your closest ER immediately!

Happy 4th of July VPP Family! 🐶🐱🎆🎉
We hope everyone has a great day enjoying the holiday! We want to ensure all our families keep their furry friends safe and inside today.

Although fireworks may be enjoyable for us, it isn't for our pets. The loud noises, parties, and commotion bring anxiety to our pets. Lets keep them safe this year!

Make sure your pet is wearing their collar AND tags today! Many pet parents make the mistake of not putting these items on their pets, thinking they will not run away but fear can cause a pet to run away. Even with your pet indoor, keep the collar and tags on! We see multiple cases every year of pets running out door, jumping through windows, jumping fences, etc due to the level of fear created by fireworks.

Make sure your pet is not only microchipped but that you have registered the microchip appropriately with your up to date information!

Exercise your pet throughout the afternoon to get excess energy out of them! This will help them relax during the festivities tonight, Give them frozen kongs, food puzzle and lick mats to help keep them occupied and relaxed.

We hope these tips help keep your pet safe today while you enjoy the holiday!

It's that time of year again, when all the summer parties begin, so lets make sure our pets are safe!🐶🐱🐾

While it can be fun to take our pets with us, it can also pose risks for our pets safety during the summer.
Did you know Corn Cob ingestion is one of most common causes for foreign body surgeries during the summer for our dogs?🌽 Corn cobs do not break down, causing an obstruction and surgery to be needed. Anytime there is a corn cob around, please dispose of it appropriately. Always ensure dogs cannot get access to the trashcan the corn cobs are thrown away in as well!

Make sure your pet(s) cannot get close to the grill. Many pets will smell the food on the grill and jump up to see whats cooking. This can lead to pets burning their paws and mouth. This can also cause them to knock the grill over, leading to hazardous food for them falling to the ground, grease spilling and possible injuries occurring.

Ensure there is always cold, fresh water available for your pet(s) and shady areas for them to relax in. Set these areas up prior to the party beginning so you won't have to think about them as much during the party. We hear alot that people get carried away during the party and forget to check on the animals at the party. This leads to pets getting heat exhaustion or running out of water and becoming dehydrated. If you set these areas up prior, you won't have to check as much and your pet can stay safe, cool, and hydrated!
*Tip: Always ensure your pet has access inside. This will allow your pet to cool down as they need it without you having to worry.

If there are going to be fireworks, make sure your pet(s) are inside before anything begins. Avoid crowded areas with your pet during these times and make sure they are safe and inside to reduce any anxiety.

We hope everyone has a wonderful holiday!

Good morning VPP Family! 🐱🐶🐾
Summer time is coming up very soon and the heat has already arrived!☀️
With today hitting 90 degrees, we want to ensure all our pet parents are educated on the dangers of summer time and the very real threat of Heat Stroke!

When the temperature reaches 80 degrees and above, it becomes very dangerous for our furry friends. If a pet is left in direct heat for more an 15 minutes at this temperature, heat stroke can occur. Heat Stroke can be fatal so lets make sure to keep our pets safe this summer!

When taking your pet on a walk, check the pavement/sidewalk first to ensure it isn't too hot for their paws. You can check the pavement by placing your hand on the pavement for 5-10 seconds. If the pavement becomes too hot for you to keep your hand down, then its too hot for your pet to walk on! Consider walking them in the grass, walking them earlier in the morning or later at night when it becomes cooler outside. Take your pets on shorter, more frequent walks during these temperatures. Also check your pets paws after a walk to ensure they have not sustained any injury due to the hot pavement.

*Pavement is 20-40 degrees hotter than the temperature outside in the summer. When it reaches 80+ outside, pavement will feel 100+ degrees on your pets paws. Pets paw pads can sustain burns quickly in these temperatures so we must be aware of potential hazards.

Always remember, pets cannot cool themselves off the same way we do. Pets sweat through their paw pads and panting. If they're exposed directly to a heat source, they cannot adequately cool themselves off and this can lead to fatal consequences.

If your pet is experiencing any of the signs below, they need to be taken to an ER immediately:
-Heavy panting for more than 15 minutes after being outside
-Difficulty breathing
-Excessively thirsty
-Bright red tongue AND gums
-Thick saliva and drooling
-Vomiting and Diarrhea
-Staggering: unsteady when walking
-Lethargic/Exhausted

Keep your pets happy and healthy this summer by keeping them inside & cool!
