Hanggi Farms

Hanggi Farms Hanggi Farms is operated by a growing family specializing in breeding Belgian Malinois', raising all natural laying hens as well as meat bird and turkeys.
(1)

What started out as a clean and healthy way of living for a young family has now been overhauled into a nice little farmstead! Everyday we care for our all natural laying hens, meat birds and turkey; as well as our herd on milking goats. Don't forget about horses... we have them too! We also offer handmade wood gifts and furniture from trees locally harvested and milled right at our farm! With our

education, training, and our passions laying with canines we spend a great deal of time working with local families of over come issues or to give their new family members the best possible start. We also put a great deal of focus on breeding and training premium quality Belgian Malinois for working and sport purposes.

Over the last 5 years Ben and I have been working extra hard to make a dream of mine come true. This dream I hope will bring a ton of magic and inspiration to our community and our customers.

This summer, especially, has been filled with an astronomical amount of hard work. We sold our farm in Prattsburgh, dissolved the majority of our livestock, and are building new roots on the Hanggi's Tree Farm in Naples. All of our hard work came to fruition last night when we passed our New York State Ag and Market inspection!

This is just a teaser stay tuned for the big reveal!!!!!

As we hunker down tonight, we have to be amazed by our animals!! Before you think "oh those poor babies", let's look at what's actually happening here!!

πŸ§₯ There is snow piling on top of an object that is about 100* F! This shows you that each of these animals are well insolated! A layer of fat in combination with a healthy, thick coat of hair acts as a jacket. These guys were warmer than I was in all my layers!!!

🍽️ Cows and Horses also have pretty neat stomachs that act as an internal furnace. Just like our wood stoves if we keep adding "material" the stove will keep producing heat. In this case food fuels thier fire πŸ”₯ Each of these amazing animals got an extra snack tonight to help their furnaces run hot!

It's been a busy 2 days here in the farm! "Life" got in the way and unfortunately this "little" heifer has spent the first 10 months on our farm virtually unhandled.

In a typical beef operation her upbringing is completely normal. Momma and babe do their thing and they get to munch on grass and get chunky! In a smaller operation like ours having cattle that are not tame and halter broke make handling the animals difficult because we do not have the handling systems like a big operation does. These chutes and alleys keep both the cattle and the farmers safe and injury free while administering medications, vaccinations, and physical exams.

So yesterday this unsocial beast ran any time you got too close and did not want to but touched for any reason! We spent 4.5 hours yesterday morning learning about releasing pressure, what a good scratch is, how to stand nicely, and that good behavior equals a sweet treat!

This morning, Miss tied like a champ and got LOTS of scratches!! I couldn't be more proud of this little lady!! She is a rockstar!

08/12/2021

Due to adding a new member to our family we have chosen to take a step back from some of our seasonal farming projects and focus on our family!! They are only little once and we don't want to miss out! ❀️

SO if you are looking for a Thanksgiving Turkey check out Miss Avah at Rosewood Farm!

✨I do need to take a moment to brag about this young lady because she will not do it herself. Avah is 17 years old and has been farming ON HER OWN since she was 10 years old. πŸ“’πŸ“’ Let me say it again!! πŸ“’πŸ“’ This young lady has spent the last 10 years creating and growing a farm that is FULLY FUNDED by HER. She just graduated High School, works, AND sells her products at the Naples Valley Farmers Market ‼️

Depending on the time of year and what her Brood animals (mother's) produce she may have B E E F πŸ„ products, P O R K πŸ– products, L A M B πŸ‘ products, and T U R K E Y πŸ¦ƒ products!

On tonight's episode of farming in the dark - -

There are challenges with larger scale farming and they're challenges with small scale farming. The weaning process looks very different between the two! A larger operation is most likely going to weaning their calves by separating all the calves from all the cows. This way of doing things is fantastic because both groups of animals gets to stay with members of the herd that they are familiar with and they can support each other. When you only have a few cows and a limited amount of space this process is not an option.

I N T R O D U C I N G
the
This is a ring with agitators on it that is placed on the septum of the calf. When the calf goes to nurse the ring will poke the cow. The cow will react, typically by kicking - - which is a normal reaction to a cow that self weans. Miss is 10 months old and well past her weaning time! She is scheduled to be bred in the in about 6-8 months so she NEEDS to learn to how to be a big girl!!!

P.S. she is not pleased with me!!! 🀣

3 years ago we brought home this tiny little wild thing!! She had a rough start but she was a fighter with a HUGE appetite!!! 🍽️ She wasn't expected to grow well or amount to much but she was going to be a project for myself and my students to learn and experience the value of nutrition!! This little 🌱 seedling was bound to catch the eye of everyone that walks by her and that she did!

Let me introduce you to the best thing known to man. This is Buckboard Bacon. It is smokes and sliced just like regular bacon but rather than being sliced from the belly fat, Buckboard Bacon is cut from the shoulder. It's almost a mix between ham and bacon. It is still as fatty cut but does have a hardier meat! It's the best.... It's so good that while I was assisting the children my dog ate the other half of my BLT 😭

Our baby girl is growing up too fast! She has become a wonderful advocate for agriculture and happy animals. Now that she is old enough to participate in she is jumping in with both feet!!

One of her projects is caring for her chicken flock! She cares for these gals at least 2 times a day and is responsible for feeding, watering, bedding the nesting boxes, collecting eggs, washing eggs, and most importantly visually inspecting her hens every day to make all her gals are nice and healthy!!!

Unfortunately, we have huge life changes coming up (stay tuned for the πŸ˜‰) so we will not be at the market with chicken. Our family at Sunshine Hollow has taken over our chicken operation! They have maintained the same practices and fundamentals so you can still expect the same juicy and fresh quality!

On a positive note our 6year old daughter will be there with Farm Fresh Eggs from her flock!! This is her first year in 4-H and she is going big!!! We can't wait to see you all again! πŸ’•

The community has spoken and they want a farmer's market!!! Spread the word to all your farmer friends!!!!! We need them to make this happen!!!
