Java the Mutt, THD, CGC, TKN

Java the Mutt, THD, CGC, TKN I am a rescue dog from NC living in Queens, NY. My story, as told my humans:

Java arrived as the surprised that you never expected, but somehow always needed.

While visiting family in North Carolina, we were driving down a winding country road when a dog ran in front of the car. Braking suddenly to avoid hitting her, my brother opened the door and Java jumped in. Despite being collarless, underweight and as we quickly discovered, covered in fleas and ticks, she immediately began licking everyone's faces. We drove around to several local houses, but no o

ne recognized her. After taking her back to my mother's farm, she quickly made friends with the dogs and cats. A trip to the vet revealed no microchip and that she was only 5.5 months old. From that first moment, she knew we were hers. Despite meeting the entire family at once, she had already selected her two parents-to-be over all the other family members. Not housebroken and untrained, we did not know what to do. Likely abandoned, we feared taking her to a shelter where she would face euthanasia if not adopted within the 72-hour window. She had already chosen us, so we chose her. The difficult fact remained that our flight was scheduled to leave in less than 24 hours and we still needed to transport a puppy we barely knew over 700 miles. We skipped our flight, rented a car and drove over 12 hours back to NYC. Both having owned dogs previously, we had some ideas around ownership, but only in small suburban towns. Having an untrained energetic puppy in the big city was a new challenge. Every day is a crazy new adventure filled with boundless love and affection. She decided that we were hers and she is never letting go. To which we can only say, neither are we.
