I’m a fully educated, insured and compassionate dog groomer. I graduated from Connecticut School of Dog Grooming in 2010, additionally am certified in Pet CPR & First Aid, Salon Sanitation and more. I attend educational seminars annually to bring the most current products, tools and better practices to my salon to benefit your pets health and safety, and to keep them looking their best!
My journey began when the prior groomer (Jules) retired and moved away. Although I just graduated from college 3 months prior her retirement, a degree in Individual Studies, majoring in accounting and business management, my career path changed.
Little did I know how difficult it would be to find another groomer I could trust, who would let me stay with my precious mini-poodle Gigi, who was, at best, was a challenge to groom. That’s when I decided to put myself (brought Gigi many times too)through grooming school in Connecticut on Saturdays. I used all my vacation time ( 5 additional weeks aside from Saturdays for 4 months)from my former full time job at a health insurance company, to spend learning there and attending grooming shows, seminars, and touring other graduates salons in RI, MA and CT to get ideas and best practices of how to start my business. Yes, I did all this because of one simple reason, I couldn’t trust anyone to groom Gigi. It’s a serious matter, and is still very important for my customers to feel comfortable knowing their pet is safe, and they will be notified of any health or behavioral problems if I discover them. Rest easy knowing “I did the work” and continue to do it to be a groomer. There are many self taught, You Tube trained groomers around, most are not trained in identifying skin issues, potential health problems, knowing what products are used for specific breeds/coat conditions. There’s a lot more to grooming a dog than soap, water, scissors and clippers!
Beware of “back room groomers” who many are uninsured, not listed as a business, not professionally trained, and an accident waiting to happen!
Unfortunately, NYS does require sales tax on pet grooming. Also, NYS requires all businesses to carry small business insurance, I additionally carry Pet Groomers insurance.
