They go home at the end of this month. And I’m already getting dad to see them leave us.

Unlike our puppies- this is a once a year thing for our Babydoll Southdown Sheep.

Yesterday was picture day for both our Owners and our Headshots for the registries.

Pictures will be emailed this weekend to our owners and they will make their selections by Wednesday.

I will only email pictures that fit all of your preferences.

Can’t wait for you to see them.

Shearing day went well and our Babydolls are loving life without those winter coats.

Lambs are now turned out on the grass with their mommas and weaning will begin over the next few weeks depending on the birth dates.

Official Pictures will be taken on the 27th and sent to those on the reservation list for official selection.

Right now I’m scheduling pick ups for May 18 and May 25.

Shearing is now complete! I’ve been struggling with connecting my Instagram stories here on Facebook- so here is today’s story.

I’ve been a little absent this past week getting the barn ready to keep everyone dry because….

🐑 Tomorrow is shearing day on the farm!!!

These Wooly fluff balls are ready for it too!

I’ll be doing ultrasounds on my 4 Babydoll ewes who have yet to lamb just to see what’s going on there.

Right now I believe we have enough to provide for current reservation preferences. If anyone turns down a lamb- I’ll alert our back up reservation list.

🩵 I’ll be contacting you all this next week with updated pictures.

You won’t need to make your final choices for another few weeks though.

🩵 I’ll have better pictures for that. We want you to see all of the features on each lamb to service your preferences.

🗓️ This is just a reminder that our reservation list usually fills up by January. So anyone considering us for next year- you can start by completing our online questionnaire.

🐑🐑 We have a great advantage when it comes to shepherds looking for a diverse selection of breeding lines. We have enough excellent proven registered lines that you can get just what you need right here for your breeding stock.

2023 was our first year breeding our new flock of mini Babydoll sheep and mini Harlequin sheep (the spotted, hornless ones). It was a great year and we met some wonderful new friends.

We still have room on our reservations lists for this coming Spring. Drop us a PM if you'd like our Lamb Readiness Questionnaire - but only if you want the BEST mini sheep available.

It's THAT time of year. Lambs aren't shorn before their first birthday usually BUT adults need that haircut every year. As a public service, here's a link to a directory of certified shearers across the US. Please note that you can check nearby states as some shearers service mulitple states.

Remember, they begin to book their routes in January, so it's best to make contact as soon as possible to ensure you'll have service when needed.

Another note on finding a Shearer, please ask if they are experienced in shearing mini sheep. Some pros do not have experience and some do not want to shear the little ones!!

Clarification for those who may be wondering. Please note that Lamgo Sheep maintains TWO separate flocks: one is purebred, registered Babydoll Southdowns, the other is registered Harlequin - also a miniature sheep breed which was developed in the USA.

Two distinct breeds - two very different sets of characteristics, and origins.

A Harlequin is NOT a spotted Babydoll, and spotted Babydolls are NOT Harlequins..... please visit the Harlequin registry for details on the differences.

You may read alot about these two breeds and the best way to ensure you are reading the truth is to go the the definitive sources for accurate information. For us, our sheep are registered with NABSSAR, BSSBA, BSRA and the Harlequins are, of course, with HSSR.

We adhere to the highest ethical standards as livestock breeders with many years of experience

JACKPOT!!!! Lamgo Sheep announces a breakthrough - we have had twin ewes on 4/19 born to a registered Black Babydoll ram mated to a registered White Babydoll. One twin is white and the other is black with a substantial white spot on her head.

In our first year of breeding - we know how rare this is. Day by day we've been watching this spot grow and now feel confident to register her as our first spotted Babydoll.

Of course, she'll be staying here... we'll share more pics as we can.

Today is a day for happy news! It's Sandi Lamgo's birthday! I hope all of you will take a moment to wish her a happy day on this post. I'll be introducing Sandi is greater detail in another post very soon, but suffice to say she is an amazing woman. When you read about her you'll know WHY she is amazing and you'll most certainly agree with me.

Remember Eli from the other day?

I wanted to share “the rest of the story” with something truly inspiring that happened today. As you may know, Eli has been our foster dog mentioned in a previous post who was pulled by Bluebonnet Animal Rescue on the day of his scheduled death.

I’m not going to say euthanized or EU, because let’s call a spade a spade, so-called “shelters” regularly kill animals in order to make room for the next unwanted animal to come in. If no one wants to adopt a particular dog or cat, too bad…. it’s killed to make room for the next potentially unwanted pet. This repeats and repeats unless one of these poor souls find a champion to save them. This is the ugly, inconvenient truth.

When Eli was first posted as needing out of the kill shelter on his “scheduled day” there were many comments with sad emojis pleading for anyone to help. Anyone but them. They all talked a lot about wanting to help but didn't actually take the steps to make it happen.

What they need to understand is that on “those” days – nothing waits for people to get everything lined up perfectly in their personal lives in order to bail out the poor animal in need. They either literally get pulled out, or they die. Clinical, cold and so, so sad.

Eli was lucky, twice! Today, something amazing happened. Another person, who already had a full life with multiple dogs, kids, work, and a farm to run, living over 4 hours away stepped up to continue fostering Eli until his forever family is found. This person didn't just talk about wanting to help, they TOOK ACTION. They got in their vehicle even though they had plenty to do at home, and they drove a long time across state borders to pick up Eli and welcome him into their home and their hearts. It wasn’t the least bit convenient. It seldom is. But I bet when they lay their heads down tonight, they are proud that they made a difference.

Tonight my heart is full seeing someone go above and beyond to help an animal in need. It's a reminder that we can all make a difference if we're willing to take action and step up when the opportunity arises.

My “space” will now be available the next time “that day” comes for another dog. Even if you can be there as an “emergency” foster – one who gets the dog safe from danger for a day or a week while we work on a more permanent foster situation – YOU HAVE SAVED A LIFE.

So here's to the amazing family now fostering Eli - thank you for being a shining example of compassion and kindness. And to anyone else who's been thinking about fostering or adopting an animal, don't stay a *keyboard cryer* - take that first step and make a difference!

Please visit Bluebonnet Animal Rescue and fill out a Foster application. Better yet, apply to give this wonderful guy the home he deserves. I just know the next “Eli” is right around the corner…

Six Wags Over Texas | Babydoll Southdown Sheep

Our foray into shepherding began in 2009 when we purchased our first flock out of New Mexico. That flock was delivered to us in Grayson County, Texas and consisted of seven black and off white sheep of all ages, from a lamb named Grayson to a half-Finn Half-Babydoll named Patootie (who as of 2019 is going on 16 years old!). The week after we got the initial flock we added two more lambs: a ram and a ewe. As they say the rest is history.

We grew our flock over time by acquiring other flocks and a single sheep here and there. In 2012 we added Harlequin miniature sheep to the mix and have kept our flock stable for the past three years.

Please feel free to visit our websites. Our main farm site is at http://SixWagsOverTexas.com. We also have a site specifically for Babydolls at http://BabydollSheepForSale.com, and another for the Harlequin sheep at http://HarlequinSheepForSale.com.

There’s a reason we’ve grown so quickly and have been successful at breeding and selling sheep. We believe it’s all attributable to our motto: Education before and service after the sale. When you do business with Six Wags Over Texas, you become part of a select crowd. We sell out of lambs every year and are very grateful to our customers for providing good homes for these special little sheep. These families know that once they have made a commitment to sheep, they know from us what to expect. Once they are back at home, they know they have a resource they can consult on every aspect of shepherding.
