Busy bee working on some wisteria
The bees are working on some of my wisteria...I love the smell these flowers have. #bees #honeybox #nectarflow
Spotted a queen in one of the hives, busy dropping eggs.
These are my fall blend of flowers I planted a couple of months ago for the bees #honeybox #bees #pollen #honey #flowers
The bees are collecting all the fall pollen if you notice the yellow and orange colors...this honey should be a dark rich color full of beneficial pollen #honeybox #goldenrod
Checking supers for the final honey pull this year...looks like it's getting close #honeybox #bees #honey
After a mites treatment and re-queen this hive is thriving with new eggs.#honeybox #queenbee #varroamite
About 2 weeks ago I inspected this hive and found no eggs, no signs of the queen and after doing an alcohol wash found 4 varroa mites. So, I immediately did an oxalic acid treatment and re-queened. Tonight's inspection was very pleasing as you can see. This was the first frame pulled and eggs were in plentiful and so was the next and the next. #honeybox #bees #varroamite #queenbee
I built this top cover with a 2" space to allow me to tip the lid for ventilation and the bees took it upon theirselves to start building comb in the space. It is called "burr comb" #honeybox #burrcomb #bees
I just did a hive inspection and checked for mites, hive beetles, looked for new eggs and made sure they had plenty of room to grow. Everything checked out good, I saw a few hive beetles in a couple of the traps so I added some traps to each hive. #itshotinabeesuit #honeybox
I put this swarm trap out about a month ago baited with swarm commander lure. I checked this morning and looks like the bees have found it and are hopefully moving in #freebees #swarmcommander #interceptor
The newest split from August is doing great with plenty of eggs and collecting fall pollen and nector.
I moved the hives over a few feet to get more sunlight and a few bees took a while to find their way back to their hive.
Washboarding
The back and forth movement of the bees is called washboarding. Many theories of why they do it but it is pretty much them cleaning their home.
Queen bee spotted 🐝
Checked out my new hive yesterday after the split and was able to see the queen. A lot of eggs getting ready to hatch and new eggs.
Feeding Time
Evening time when the sun goes down is the best time to feed and check out the hives, they are the most calm right before sunset.
Baby bee hatching
Doing a hive inspection this evening I was able to catch this baby bee making its entrance into the world🐝
