In case you were wondering what it takes to use a shock collar.

Yes, let your dog be a dog!

Yes, let your dog be a dog!

When in human care, outlets for species specific behaviors are a welfare issue.

Find ways to give your dog appropriate outlets for their natural behaviors.

Give access to:
Dog-appropriate chews
Digging boxes
Play with flirt poles/balls
Allow some barking
Parkour and agility to stretch those legs

Sometimes what seems like the simplest answer is far from the best answer. If you’re thinking about getting an invisible fence or similar, please reconsider.

Learn how to set your dog up for success, strengthen communication, and reward behaviors that build the life skills your dog needs to live happily in a human world. Using a positive, force-free approach, we will work on coming when called, loose-leash walking, stay, leave it, drop it, relax on a mat...

Always let your dogs choose their friends. Forcing them to “like” another dog is never the best option.

Did you know that most dogs become more and more "dog selective" as they age? And guess what? That's OK!

Enrichment is good for your dog in any weather, but especially when it's too hot to be safe outside for very long.

Hearing "sit, sit, SIT!" while out on walks or in my classes is one of my pet peeves. There is a time and place for sitting, but before training it or asking for it all the time, stop and ask WHY you want or need your dog to sit all the time. Then, if you need it, train it properly so you don't need to keep repeating it over and over again.

Quit The Sit. Does your dog really need to sit when you ask? Probably not. Sit isn't a life or death behavior. Read more here.

Please take the time to pay attention to how your dog feels during various interactions. You can prevent discomfort and possibly even bites, while enhancing your bond with your furry best friend.

Hugging is a normal behavior for humans, but dogs often find it hard to understand and anxiety-inducing.

If a dog is repeatedly not following a cue, it's important we don't decide they are being 'stubborn'. Dogs are not stubborn because they choose to be.

It may be that they haven't actually learned the cue properly.

They may be feeling unwell.

There may be distractions in the environment that mean they can't concentrate and respond to the cue.

The reward on offer might not be motivating enough for them in that moment.

Look at the environment for distractions, look at the coaching history to see if the cue has been fully established and proofed in the wider world, and look at the value of the rewards you are offering.

Loose leash training, where your dog doesn't pull during walks is the goal of most owners. Calm, empathy, and treats can make this a reality.

Happy New Year! Remember, big holiday events can be frightening to your pets. Celebrations may include loud scary noises and fireworks, and lots of unknown people. Make sure your pets are microchipped, have plenty of exercise and companionship, and are in a safe and comfortable space.

And... when selecting your resolutions, don't forget to include your beloved furry family members!:
