I've had some clients ask for a first aid and triage presentation. Is this something that multiple people would be interested in? Just gauging interest at this time.

Snow buildup in your horse's hooves is constant struggle for owners with horses that must stay in shoes all winter. How to you help prevent this dangerous condition?

1. Ask you farrier to put anti-snowball pads under the shoes or even a full pour in pad to prevent the build-up.
2. Try a home remedy. Put Crisco or Vasoline in a thick layer on the sole, these work better than WD-40 or PAM. Don't put motor oil or anything that would harm your skin on the hooves.
3. Try Horse Hoof Boots. There are many options out there for horse hoof boots, many can safely go over shoes and even add more traction for the horse.

Have to give your horse medication and it's in pill form? Don't fret, there are several options.
1. Crush the pills to a powder with a coffee grinder, rolling pin, or pill crusher. Mix with feed. If your horse sorts out the powder try just breaking the tablets instead of crushing or adding a liquid (molasses, water, applesauce) to make it stick to the feed.
2. Use a modified 60ml oral syringe, put pills and fill with water (and molassed or applesauce, if needed). Let sit until dissolved. Give orally with the syringe. You can also use the powder from previous step.
3. If the tablets are small enough, get some soft horse muffin treats and push the tablets into the muffin and feed to your horse.
If you still cant get your horse to eat the medication, contact me. I can possibly change medications or give you a few more ideas.
