PPP RECOVERY
IS A PROGRAM
OF PATRIOT OUTREACH. Our mission is threefold:
First - To bridge the gap between those who seek help and the silent majority who avoid the stigma,
by providing private and confidential access to simple and effective resources to those suffering as a result of stressful or traumatic experiences while in the service of our nation. Equine and rescue training are proven therapeutic programs teamed here to offer Patriots and their families opportunities for self-help in recovery from debilitating stress. Second - To provide a forum whereby Patriots can refocus and exercise the resilience they learned under extreme stress by continuing to serve the dire needs of others in the peace time communities into which they are struggling to reintegrate. Volunteering in the rescue and training of ponies offers the proven benefits of equine therapy. Volunteering for search and rescue missions to utilize the ponies they have trained affords Patriots the opportunity to continue the heroic service they began by serving in the defense of our nation. By helping to save ponies and lost people, Patriots have the chance for self-help. PPP Recovery is a Teamed program bridging the gap. We rescue ponies from potential slaughter and abuse. The ponies are then trained by very important people, our Patriots, and their families. Both are trained as therapy and for Search and Rescue Purposes. stands for Very Important Ponies and Very Important People. Ponies escape being slaughtered, neglected and abused. Each year over 100,000 horses and ponies are slaughtered in cruel and inhumane ways. The ponies that are bound for slaughter from the USA are taken to either Canada or Mexico to be slaughtered. Ponies are entered into the program and are trained as equine therapy ponies for the Patriots, Vets, Military contractors and their families. CAT # 1 ponies Therapy Ponies
A few ponies are trained for the therapy program. We have volunteers that visit on a daily basis and work with the ponies to socialize them, teach them excellent ground manners, and to potty train them. We welcome all military families out to the facility to work and learn about the equines. CAT # 2 ponies Patriot Ponies
We will have a select few of promotional Ponies. We will take the Patriot Ponies to the VA hospitals, and other care facilities to help with promotional needs of the program. Patriot Ponies are therapy ponies that have excelled in their training and stand out above the herd in their abilities and talents with patrons. These ponies will be trained and supervised at events, parades and fundraisers. These ponies will also be utilized for educational purposes, community outreach and grow our program throughout the United States. These ponies will also be offered to trained and experienced personnel at Military facilities. CAT # 3 ponies Air Scent Detection Ponies (Equine Trackers)
The tracking ponies will be trained for Search and Rescue purposes. We have found that over 78% of the people that are helped through SAR searches are military families. The ASD Ponies will be trained to track lost people and be able to find cadaver’s through air scent detection. Our plan is to enlist military personnel, vets, and/or military contract workers and their families. This Search and Rescue work will be done by Patriots in their communities, and working through LAW ENFORCEMENT agencies throughout the United States. Once a pony is adopted into the program, it stays for life. Clients may get lifetime usage of the pony, however the ponies will be micro-chipped and kept under the ownership of the VIP Program. BENEFITS OF EQUINE THERAPY
Animal-assisted therapy has shown great results and evidenced- based efficacy in patients including war heroes with PTSD, depression, anxiety, attention-deficit disorder, conduct disorders, dissociate disorders, and other chronic mental health issues. Equine therapy also assists the clients in building confidence and being able to master new projects, such as recovery, and leads to improve self-esteem. Self- Efficacy:
Learning to communicate and achieve harmony with a strong animal promotes new feelings of efficiency. A motivated “I can do it” replaces feelings of helplessness and motivation, empowering the person to take on challenges in the other areas of recovery. Self-Concept:
When the client is able to control the strong animal and puts trust into the animal, we begin to see restoration and development of those whose ability to trust has been violated by difficult life experiences. Examples of this are physical or sexual abuse, abandonment, neglect or marital infidelity. PERSPECTIVE
Through grooming and other interactions of care for the equine of a specific pony, patients are able to put aside the absorbing focus of their mental illness, such a depressive ramifications, and instead to direct their attention outwardly toward safe and caring interaction. Anxiety Reduction:
Many studies of human-animal interaction indicate that contact with the animals significantly reduces physiological anxiety levels. Some clients are initially afraid of horses. But horses’ genuine and affection allay these fears, helping patients to embrace exposure therapy for their anxiety issues. Decreasing Isolation:
For many individuals with mental illness, there is long-term or recent history of feeling rejected by, and different from, other people. Mental illnesses are intrinsically isolating experiences. The horses’ unconditional acceptance invites the clients back into the fellowship of life. Self-Acceptance:
Many of the patients are initially concerned that they will do something embarrassing while learning about and caring for horses. Yet clients quickly learn that the other participants are engaged in their own equine experiences and they find comfort in engaging in the horse and their own experience. Fears of embarrassment in public are thereby often reduced and self-acceptance increased. Impulse Modulation:
Communicating effectively with a horse requires that the rider demonstrate assertiveness, direction, and initiative, important skills that enable the clients to express his/her needs and rights more effectively in other relationships. Boundaries:
Many clients have experienced prior relationships as controlling or abusive. Healing takes place as the clients discover that horse care within the context of a respectful relationship between a client and a horse, and that, although physically powerful, each pony typically operates within the boundaries of this mutually respectful relationship. Creative Freedom:
Many persons with mental illnesses have been emotionally inhibited or over-controlled and have lost some measure of spontaneity. The playful aspects of horse care and team equine activities can help restore spontaneity and ability for healthy recreation and play. Our Search Horses are trained for Search Purposes and in Air Scent Detection. Much as K9 dogs are. Our goal is to establish search teams, rescue's in every state to meet the needs of families, law enforcement and community needs. Our teams are trained professionally, have experience in war zones, working the Beat, or are the family of these Warriors. Come join us today.
