WHY I 'IGNORE' YOUR PET

When I walk into your home, I always 'ignore' your anxious or fearful pet (cat or dog) and wait patiently for them to make the first move.

I don't crowd them or touch them without consent. I don't face them head-on or stare them in the eye. I just observe them without putting them in a worse emotional position. Even when they venture close to me, I refrain from touching them. And no, I don't extend my hand so that they can smell me as they could smell me when I entered the gate already due to their keen sense of smell. Extending my hand just scares them. No sudden movements. No loud voices. Just calmness. I wait patiently for them to initiate contact and communication with me. Even then, I limit contact to 3 second bursts.

Sniffing me is not an invitation for me to touch! The dog is gathering information about me. I wait for him to nose me or paw me or lick me and then may pat them. Even then, I pause for corroboration (wait for another sign) to ensure that it's OK to pat them. Rather err on the side of caution and go slow.

I 'ignore' your pet out of love and respect. I give them choices. Choice based behaviour modification builds self-esteem and confidence.

Now you know why I 'ignore' your pet...

Edit - when I say ignore, I mean respect 🙂

Your grief is welcome and seen in this safe space. 🤍

They brought out certain parts of you that were unique to the bond you shared with them and now that’s gone. We can feel lost and broken but know you’re not alone in this journey.

We’re on this ship together, some days are calm, some we may sink, some we stand on the edge and feel like jumping in, but we don’t.

We must learn to grieve because our grief is all the unsaid things, all the emotion left behind, all of the love and memories we have, and that’s what keeps the ship sailing. We’ll get there. We may not no how but we’re in this together 🌈 ⛵️ ✨

Today I saw it with my own eyes.

I asked people around and they said he comes there every day and lies down for a few hours.

Then he goes somewhere and comes again the next day!

It's long past time to understand that there are things in life much more important than money, power, and career. There is something in the world called true, selfless Love!

THE INVISIBLE SLIMY MONSTER IN THE WATER BOWL

Ever rub your fingers on the inside of your pet's water bowl and you feel a slippery slime of sorts? Well that invisible goo is called Biofilm.

Biofilm is a collection of organic and inorganic, living and dead materials collected on a surface. It is made up of many different types of bacteria bound together in a thick substance that acts as a glue to both hold the bacteria together and adhere it to a surface.

Biofilm can often be good bacteria but there is also the bad!

Biofilms provide a safe haven for organisms like Listeria, E. coli and legionella where they can reproduce to levels where contamination of products passing through that water becomes inevitable.

Bad Biofilms have been found to be involved in a wide variety of microbial infections in the body such as urinary tract infections, middle-ear infections and bladder infections.

Many pet parents are guilty of simply refilling the water bowl over and over without a wash and this becomes a wonderful environment for biofilm to soak around in.

How to reduce Biofilm:

Remember to clean your pet’s water bowl at least once a week if you can and change water daily.

For pet daycares where a host of different bacteria float around in water bowls, wash daily!

For best results, run your water bowls through a hot cycle in the dishwasher with an eco friendly, non-toxic soap to really clean out the biofilm!

Rodney Habib Pet Health Site

"An educated, informed and well-researched community of pet owners can only put more pressure on the pet food industry to be better! When pet owners know better, they will only do better!"

(P.S. - I am going to get lambasted over the "wash once a week at least" concept. However, after a wonderful discussion with a well known pro-active veterinarian/scientist, when she studied the bacteria looming in pets' water bowls she found if you have a healthy beast, biofilm can actually be full of wonderful, healthy bacteria. It's like playing in the mud as kids and having good bacteria all over you! So sometimes cleaning regularly can wash all the good stuff away. ;) )

ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT HERBS TO EVER ADD TO YOUR PET’S DIET!

In a first-of-its-kind study, researchers looked for the presence of toxic chemicals in umbilical cord blood of newborn babies. Of the more than 400 chemicals tested for, 287 were detected in umbilical cord blood. Of these, 180 cause cancer in humans or animals, 217 are toxic to the brain or nervous system, and 208 cause birth defects or abnormal development in animals. - Environmental Working Group

Hello toxic planet and the skyrocketing occurrences of cancer in our pets (and in ourselves)!

Let me introduce you to one of my top 5 most important herbs that needs to be in your pet’s life, if it isn’t already!

Milk thistle!

This herb has been used for over 2,000 years to help fix a zillion different problems!

Recently, scientists from the Radiological Physics and Advisory Division in India found in their study on milk thistle that silibinin, found in milk thistle, programmed cell death in breast cancer.

“Early laboratory studies show that silymarin and other active substances in milk thistle may have anticancer effects. These substances appear to stop cancer cells from dividing and reproducing, shorten their lifespan, and reduce blood supply to tumors.” - University of Maryland Medical Center

Personally though, I love it for its allergy-fighting properties! If your poor pet is constantly itching and scratching, milk thistle can help!

According to The Truth Cause of Allergies – It’s In The Liver:

“The liver has to process toxins and when it can’t do its job it stores them. If it stores them it also produces additional histamines to protect itself. If an allergen is present the brain sends a message: ‘Send out a few histamines! I think there’s an invader!!’ and the liver proceeds it releases too many, and you have the allergic response. Cleanse the liver and maybe [...] you’ll become allergy/asthma free.”

Dosages:

Use ¼ of a teaspoon per 20lbs of body weight.

Detoxification is such an important process, not only for us humans, but also for our pets. We can be feeding our furry loved ones the best foods in the world but pores clogged with toxins will not allow essential nutrients to pass, causing a weakened immune system. A pet’s weakened immune system equals a multitude of problems! Milk thistle is the boss of detoxifiers!

This tick has been hanging around for us to show people for a while. After months in a sealed container with no additional feeding she laid eggs. This gives you an idea of how long a tick can be dormant and how many eggs one female can lay. Remember ticks bloom again in the fall so keep up with prevention.

If you have a dog🐶 or know someone who has a dog that seizures🤯 and they haven’t tried a diet change, they are truly missing out on the potential to reduce seizures in their pet!

This new study highlights when epileptic dogs had MCT Oil (derived from coconut oil🥥) added to their food, 71% of the dogs experienced a reduced seizure frequency. MCTs provide medium chain fatty acids (MCFAs) and ketones as auxiliary brain🧠 energy and can reduce seizures in rodent seizure models, dogs and humans with epilepsy.

Multiple studies have shown that certain seizures frequencies can be reduced by changing to a higher fat/low carb diet (i.e. a ketogenic diet) and/or adding more clean fats to their dogs’ food, like MCT Oil. In approximately 50% children and adults with certain types of epilepsy, seizure frequency can be effectively reduced as long as the diet is continued.

In our new book, The Forever Dog, we discuss ketogenic diets, which also mimic the beneficial effects of fasting (including a reduction in seizure potential) in the chapter titled “De-Aging through Diet.” The Forever Dog is available for pre-order, worldwide, right now! www.ForeverDog.com
