The wonderful story of Pilot the dog!
At the beginning of April, our officers were informed of a dog living in the scrapyard of the Aerospace Museum at Hill Air Force Base. Staff had been leaving food out there for him for the biggest part of his life, but they decided they wanted to reach out to see if we could help this dog get a home.
When we first met him, he wouldn’t let anyone touch him or even get close to him. He had to be caught in a live trap and transported that way to the shelter. He had never been so close to people and was rightfully terrified.
It’s hard to imagine what his life was like. Did he have a home before? Was he abandoned? Was he just born as a wild dog? Museum staff said they have seen him around since before winter of 2023, so he couldn’t have been more than a little puppy just trying to survive.
Thanks to the amazing staff and volunteers at Weber County Animal Services for working with him and helping him understand that people can be his friends, the dog, now named Pilot, will be available for adoption very soon! We love success stories like this and we are so excited for Pilot to finally get to experience life as a dog!
*if interested in Pilot, please keep in mind he would do better in a home with older, dog-savvy children, and he will need time to adjust regardles. Pilot’s ideal home is one that will take everything at his pace. Remember, everything he does is likely the first time he’s doing it*
