A great reference photo of how you should skin your deer for a shoulder mount. Leave plenty of leg and full brisket. Tube the skin up the neck - don’t make a dorsal cut down the neck and back.

2024 Hunting Season tips to save you money and time:
If you plan to get a whitetail shoulder mount please be sure to ask your processor to tube the deer cape and not cut the deer all the way down the back. It takes me an extra hour + of sewing and prep work for a long dorsal cut - you will be charged an extra $45 for dorsal cut closures.
Moose European Mounts- I will not be taking in any Moose European Mounts this year, I am happy to refer you to a qualified taxidermist if you need one for those.
Rotten or foul smelling deer/moose- I will not be accepting any animals with foul smell. If you drop your animal off to me frozen and I thaw it out to find it has a bad odor I will call you to come pick it back up and charge you a fee for my time in handling it. Applies to all mounts Europeans, shoulder, antler, etc...
Paying with credit or debit cards I charge an extra 3% fee. I take cash, cards and Venmo. No checks. 50% deposit required at drop off. Please call for pricing.

Here is something really cool and fun, I know some of my customers haven’t seen these yet… a whitetail deer mouthpiece, the deer will have some food in his mouth (like a corn cob) when the mount is complete. This molded piece is made from an actual deer head, and I will attach it to the deer form. Some really cool innovative things happening in taxidermy world now that molding/casting is being taken to the next level.

Had a great time at the Maine State Association of Taxidermy Show this weekend. Super happy with the results. The pronghorn antelope is a customers mount I did and it took second place ribbon. Then the shop piece I put together took third place ribbon. Super fun to get together with like minded peers and talk about this profession we love. Thank you to my customers for your continued business allowing me to work on and preserve your personal trophies and memories. Without you none of this would matter.

Finally have the new shop area move in ready! I have the walk in intake room / sewing and finishing room. Then the second room is the mounting room. We have a new parking area going in outside. Downstairs in the basement I still have my freezers, storage and my European mount area. Will be adding a sink and my work bench in the mounting room asap, but it’s finally able to be used for mounting this seasons deer. The natural light in here is perfect for finish work! Thanks to my customers who didn’t mind coming into my living room to drop off and pick up their mounts previously, super thrilled to now have a designated shop!

The new shop is coming along great, now we just need to cut in a door inbetween the two rooms and lay the linoleum in the second room. Add a sink and some stainless tables and we are off to the races, can’t wait to start mounting this past seasons whitetail bucks with all this space and natural lighting from these windows.

Nice moose recently completed for a great customer. In this video the moose is roughed in without the finish work. I will post a picture separately with the finish work. Didn’t have a chance to get a finish video unfortunately. Loved working on this Moose for Jeff at Sturdy Hardware.

Couple of moose in the whitening stage of the European process. The two moose antlers literally take up the whole floor in my shop. Here is one of them. During the maceration process I have to commit a whole heated shed to each for a minimum of 3-4 months. They are no joke.

Merry Christmas! Thank you to all of my clients for your business! It’s been a super busy year with a wide variety of stunning species for preservation. I wanted to share today’s drop off…. A stunner of a Red Stag Deer for an antler mount. Definitely a once in a lifetime hunt for most. What a magnificent animal. The Red Stag always leaves me in awe every time I see one.

I didn’t get a chance to get photos outside today on this beast… but here is a quick video. Such a unique rack with a side kicker off the main beam.. and the blowout at tip of his antler is likely from a BOT bug getting under his velvet during antler growth. Congrats Alex on earning your Maine Biggest Bucks Patch for this buck!
