Our Sabetha office has an opening for 1-2 kennel assistant positions. Job responsibilities would include caring for boarding animals (walking, feeding, & cleaning kennels) and general cleaning in the main clinic. Employee must be able to work a few weekdays between 3:30-5:00 PM, approximately 2 weekends per month (Saturday mornings from 8-12 PM, Saturday evenings, & twice on Sundays) and holidays. Yesterday Myley, a 8th grade student from Sabetha Middle School, spent the day shadowing Dr. Jeff DeMint. She was able to observe a variety of appointments- small animal surgery, preg checking cows, working calves, and helping with a new puppy visit!

World Veterinarian day is April 27th. Dr. Detweiler was asked a while back if he could be filmed at work to help catch some footage for a video that Boehringer Ingelheim was producing to help celebrate veterinarians "going beyond." This was the final product!

TNR stands for trap, neuter (or spay), and return. Outdoor farm/feral cats are humanely trapped in live trap, brought into the clinic for a spay or neuter, then returned to their original location once they’ve recovered from surgery.

The cost is $70 for a female and $50 for a male. This does also include a 1 year Rabies Vaccine that the cat will receive.

Dr. Detweiler was chosen to have a film crew from England come and film his daily activities to capture the some footage for world veterinarian day next month. So Laura and Kasia flew in from London and spent the day recording and taking photos of Dr. Detweiler in action. We don’t know if any of the footage will be used yet, but they sure had a lot of fun capturing the footage!

Osteoarthritis can occur in pets of any age. It is a progressive and sometimes debilitating condition which causes joint and cartilage damage. Approximately 40% of dogs silently suffer with chronic arthritis pain.

Symptoms of arthritis in dogs include:
⚫️ Slowing Down
⚫️ Limping after rest or activity
⚫️ Reluctance or hesitance to jump up or down from furniture, cars etc..
⚫️ Difficulty or reluctance to go up or down stairs
⚫️ Very slow or reluctance to sit or drop
⚫️ Not interested in in playing with toys, balls etc
⚫️ Reduced levels of activity, and interaction with family or other pets.
⚫️ Increased behavioral issues such as anxiety,
⚫️ Changes in mood
⚫️ Grumpy with other dogs or people

Calving season can be stressful for both the calves and the ranchers. Although you cannot predict when these challenges will come during calving season, you can be prepared for them by having high-quality bovine colostrum products on-hand and ready to use when the need arises. Strollin' into the weekend like.....🌞

8 week old Pugzlee came to see Dr. Savannah in our Sabetha office for his first puppy visit today! He weighed a whopping 1.5lbs! His housemate Aspen couldn't let him visit her favorite vet office alone, so she tagged along! They both strolled out of the office with peanut butter mustaches and wagging tails! 🐾

Ear Mites

Have you noticed your cat shaking their head, digging at their ears, or holding their ears pinned back? It could be ear mites! Ear mites live in the ear cannal and are very itchy and irritating to your cat. The good news is, ear mites are very treatable. Microfilaria

This is a video of Microfilaria (offspring of female heartworms). Microfilaria live in the blood stream and are picked up by mosquitoes when they feed on an infected dog. The mosquito then transfers the microfilaria to your pet. Heartworms are treatable but expensive, so it is best to keep your pet on preventative throughout the year.
