Have you been following Lilo’s story? Upon returning to our care (due to no fault of her own), she’d become a timid pup in need of life exposure. We’ve partnered with Paws N’ Play to expand her world while learning more about her, and are SO proud of the progress she’s made! 💫

Thanks to her care team, Lilo has opened up, built trust, and mastered many manners. She sees all humans as treat dispensers and is happy to engage in building relationships with people. (A lover of love!) As she’s relaxed, we’ve discovered a silly, sweet, happy adolescent shepherd. It’s time to find our girl her TRUE …can you help us make her match? ♾️

At Paws N’ Play, I’ll have a specially designed space for our furry friends to play, learn, and do all those silly dog things in a secure environment. Plus, you’ll find all the must-have goodies conveniently stocked at the store – making it a breeze for you and your fur pals. 🛒🐕

The “Canine Campaign Trail”

Imagine if dogs were like politicians running for office, attending one event after another, shaking paws, and chatting with everyone. But here’s the kicker – they never chose this path; it was thrust upon them because the other dog became the president of the HOA. Dogs, much like us, have their comfort zones and personal space. Not all of them aspire to run a political campaign and be the top dog.

Now, picture this scenario: You’re out for a walk with your spouse, and a group of strangers starts raving about your partner’s hair, saying, ‘Oh, how lovely! Can we touch it?’ Your spouse, without a second thought, says, ‘Sure, go right ahead!’ If you found yourself in that situation, you might not know whether to be upset with the strangers or your spouse, would you?

Yet, this is often what we do to our dogs. We allow countless people to invade their personal space, and then we’re surprised when, after days or even months of someone encroaching on their bubble, they finally snap. While some dogs do enjoy meeting everyone and every dog, many prefer a more selective approach to socialization.

It’s our responsibility to safeguard our dogs’ personal space without feeling the need to justify it to every passerby. When our dogs try to communicate their discomfort through growling or snapping, we must pay attention and respect their boundaries.

Furthermore, when it comes to introducing our dogs to other dogs, forcing them into every social interaction is akin to shaking hands with every person at the mall. It’s simply not appropriate, and it’s no wonder it leads to undesirable behavior.

So, let’s take a page from our furry friends’ playbook. Let’s be discerning about who we allow into our dogs’ social circles and understand that not every person or dog is worthy of their attention. Dogs, just like us, prefer selective social interactions, savoring their walks with loved ones and observing the world from a safe distance.
