Cache Creek is a nonprofit animal rescue. Our vision is to give every animal a lifelong, loving, caring home!

We want to update everyone on the next phase of our rescue journey. We will be moving out of Alsip Home and Nursery in St. John, Indiana at the end of the month. We have animals who we will be continuing to adopt out, and they will be moved into foster with some of our current volunteers. Please continue to share our posts to help us find these deserving animals their forever homes.

We want to thank everyone for your tremendous support over these last two and a half years. We have had so many wonderful dogs and cats come through our doors, and we have met so many wonderful people who opened their homes to them. You will always be family to us. We are forever grateful for the people who have supported us throughout our journey, whether that was spreading the word, donating, volunteering, or adopting, and to Alsip Nursery for allowing us to have a great space to save lives.

Remember, although we are transitioning from our current operations, we still have animals needing homes that we will be continuing to post. The Cache Creek Rescue location inside of Alsip Nursery in Frankfort, Illinois is unaffected and will be continuing operations as usual.

Peter had his final check up with the doctor and got an all-clear. He’s knees healed very well and he’s all ready to resume normal activity, so that means Peter and Roxy got to play together again! If you’ve been following our page for a while, you know these two are very good friends, but they haven’t been able to play while Peter was recovering from knee surgery. Needless to say we had two very happy puppies on our hands!

Both Peter and Roxy are available for adoption and ready to go home! You can read more about them in our Adoptable Animals Album. They are not a bonded pair, just friends here at the rescue. Dorothy has the perfect amount of sass mixed in with all her laid back sweetness. And even though she’s pretty chill, she’s still always ready to sn**ch a mouse toy. She loves hanging out on her cat shelf and getting head pets and neck rubs. Congratulations to our recent adopters on their new family members! Our parvo survivor puppies Chelsea and Charlie, wonderful kitty Ned, our sweet medical case Phoebe, fabulous kittens Jack and June, and wonderful pup Finnegan all found their forever homes! Fireworks are starting, so remember to be extra careful with your pets. Check ID tags, update your microchip registration if needed, make sure collars and harnesses are properly fitted. Please keep your dog on a leash if you do not have a secured, tall enough fence, and make sure to supervise them when outdoors. This time of year, the loud, unpredictable noises can be very frightening for pets and have them on edge, so be extra mindful and understanding if your pets are stressed. Keep the TV playing or some calming music on, especially when you are out of the house, and think about enrichment toys, pheromones, or other aids to help keep your pets calmer and happier. Fireworks can be a lot of fun for us, but not so fun for our furry friends, so just pay a little extra attention to their safety and well being this time of year.

Hopefully the day will come soon when Roxy can stop going to sleep in a kennel and start going to bed in a home. This girl always has the happiest, biggest smile, except for when we have to leave for the night. We cannot wait for the day to come when we no longer have to tuck her in for the night, looking at those big, sad eyes. And instead she can continue to smile until she drifts off to sleep in a home. That day will come one day and hopefully one day soon.

Sage is ready to find her adventure buddy! She’s looking for active family who will spend time every day going for walks, doing some training or enrichment, and playing tug (her favorite game!). You must also love snuggles, since once she’s gotten some of her energy out, she will plop herself down on your lap and expect lots of hugs and kisses.

While Roxy does love her walks and zooming around with a stuffie in her mouth, what is clearly her favorite activity is just hanging out with you. She loves to lay on your lap, lean up against you, or share a couch or chair with you. She is so snuggly, and once she’s had a little bit of exercise for the day, she is happy to just get hugs and give kisses all day long.

Dorothy is the perfect, laid back kitty. She’s very affectionate, and loves to rub against you for pets. But she’s also content to hang out on top of the cat tower or kitty shelf if there’s no people around. She’s a calmer kitty too, but she’ll still sn**ch a mouse toy like no body’s business. Finnegan is such a big, lovable guy! He’s an active puppy who loves his playtime and going for walks, but he is also such a cuddle bug! He loves everyone and everything and will always be up for the next adventure, whether that’s out for a long hike or curling up on the couch for a movie marathon. Finnegan is only 7 months old, and he does well with other playful dogs too. He is such a good puppy, and is certainly a favorite with our volunteers (and for good reason!). If you’re looking for a fun-loving cat who’s always ready for a good time, then Leo’s the one for you! Leo is always up for a play session, and is an awesome snuggler too. Peter is one fun pup! He’s a very outgoing, medium-sized guy who always loves meeting new people and making new friends (both human and canine!) He’s still a young pup at just under a year old, so he certainly loves to play, but he also loves to snuggle and get lots of pets. He’s also a very smart pup, who is always eager to learn a new trick for some tasty treats! Not to mention he is absolutely adorable and has the softest fur and most stunning eyes. Peter is ready to go home! You may remember us posting this sweet face a little bit ago. Peter has been with us since he was a young puppy, and we have had no idea why he wasn’t getting adopted. He is an outgoing, social dog who loves people and other dogs. He’s super smart too, he’s active but also settles down really nicely. Overall, he’s pretty perfect, so we were all stumped.

A couple months ago Peter started limping, so we brought him in to our vet and turns out he had luxating patella in both knees. So we got him in for surgery, both knees are now fixed, and he’s recovering exceptionally! We guess Peter wanted to stick around for a little while until he could get his surgery! And the good news is he’s now ready to go home!

Meet our Pet of the Week: Finnegan!

Finnegan is just a big ol' lovebug. He is snuggly times a million, and is always ready for some hugs and kisses. This 6 month old puppy is going to be a big boy, and he is sure to be great boy too. He is incredibly loving and his absolute most favorite activity is snuggling. Finnegan is an active puppy and also LOVES to play! He loves splashing in the kiddie pool and playing with all his toys. A family who will go for daily walks, doesn't mind some playtime, and is excited about training would be great for Finnegan. Oh, and don't forget, you must love puppy snuggles!

Finnegan has done fine with other dogs here who don’t mind a high energy playmate, and older kids would be preferred as Finnegan is a big pup who is still learning manners.
