Crunch munch, love Paige ♥️
Trying to clean and Heath going into hyper nest making mode 🤣
Not rat related but definitely share worthy! We are fortunate where we live we get to witness such wonders of nature. Mom just had two babies in our backyard. (Video taken from inside to not scare or disturb mom and babies) ♥️
Hard to believe this is the same kid that used to bite and scream and hide in the corner!
Although Ferguson is now a very playful happy rat, any rat that bites and draws blood at anytime while in rescue or disclosed as having a bite history at their previous home, remains with us permanently. One reason being, we don't know if they will regress in a new environment. Ferguson is one happy ratto and has lots of friends now ♥️
Blue getting his nom nom on with some baked sweet potato 😋
Trigger Warning! Rat chocking.
Patrick, our blind rat, started chocking on what I believe was their Oxbow food due to the color of his saliva/drool. It looks very alarming but I did not intervene because he was still breathing. It took about an hour but he worked it out himself. After he did, he laid down for several minutes to recover due the strenuous effort but then went about his evening and was back to his old self. Unless your rat stops breathing you want to leave them be. Sharing so you know what signs of choking can look like.
Just took in two boys, each missing their right back foot. One for sure has an URI and both have signs of mites but I have already treated with kitten revolution. They see Dr Patrick at Vanguard Veterinary Clinic Redland tomorrow. Welcome Calvin and Jaxon.
And the medical surrenders keep rolling in 😢 two babies with possible respiratory infections, one with loose stool and one with a head tilt. They already have vet appointments. Dr Patrick at Vanguard Veterinary Clinic Redland is going to be a very busy lady this week. Depending on Levi's head tilt and how it progresses or not, they may or may not be available for adoption.
Just a rat (Melody) on a cat wheel 🤣 she had some medical obstacles following her emergency surgery a couple weeks ago but she's finally on the mend 🙏♥️ and clearly getting back to her exercise regimen! 🤣🤣🤣
Herman is finally getting settled and giving us permission to show him affection in the form of gentle pets.
Noah getting his evening groom on 😍😂🤣
Noah was VERY VERY shy when he first came in. He came from a very neglectful situation so imagine how happy I am that he chose to crawl in my lap to assume this silly position to make sure his leg and foot are squeaky clean!
$50 for a manicure....nah. Nadine does my nails for free 😂
Getting lots of kisses while seeing the amazing Dr Patrick at Vanguard Veterinary Clinic at Redland
When in doubt get your rat checked out!
My last play time with Archie and Martin before they went to their awesome forever home last night. It's always bittersweet. 🥹
(Not all rats like to play like this so play to your rats' comfort level)
Nadine LOVES spaghetti♥️
She eats with one hand because she has hind leg degeneration so can't balance eating with two hands. Hind leg degeneration can be common in older rats😢 but they can still live very good high quality lives with cage modifications to help them get around 🥰
Oh brothers🤣
Martin and Archie go to their new home this week ♥️ I will miss these two's shenanigans.
I don't post the really bad things we deal with day in and day out and some of the surrenders I get that are handed over to me dying so I have to rush them to the ER and I am the one to pay to have them euthanized and they are with a complete stranger in their final moments which happens so much more often than you would believe. I don't post things like having 6 rats recovering from surgery at one time and not knowing if one of them is going to make it because of the condition they were surrendered to me in. Or being up at 2am administering meds and oxygen therapy for a rat in respiratory distress (which I'm doing right now) when I have to be up at 5am for work the next day. The constant threats that people make to us. I could go on and on. These are just some of the things that people don't know that rescues are constantly dealing with. What makes it worth it is seeing these wonderful and often misunderstood living beings thrive and be loved and our wonderful supporters that cheer us on to keep going when we just don't want to anymore.
