So the inspector came today, and big surprise!!!

I passed!!! They even said I could have MORE CHICKENS AND A ROOSTER! There's gonna be some fun projects for this coming year, and I'm super excited to be an OFFICIAL, city sanctioned chicken tender.

After 10 months, I FINALLY GOT A CALL FROM THE CITY. I applied for my chicken permit back in February and they are NOW coming to inspect my backyard. At least this inspection will count for 2024!

Did you know that the average age of the eggs in your local grocery store is 6-8 weeks? Those eggs you buy at Costco or HEB have been sitting in warehouses and traveling in refrigerated trucks for longer than they will sit in your fridge. A fresh chicken egg can sit on your counter for 2-3 weeks before it starts to lose its nutritional value, while the eggs you bought from the store are going bad the moment you buy them.

Don't be cluckin around with a failing food system, start raising your birds today!

I've had a lot of fun these past few months, it's been such a joy filming these wacky birds and learning how to care for them. Unfortunately, it's not all fun and games at Big Chicken Lil Ranch. Today we announce the death and celebrate the life of one of my egg laying hens. Chico was a Lavender Splash Orpington, and she was a good girl. Rest in peace Chico.

It's spring! The seeds are coming up, the potato's are flourishing, and I have ANOTHER GIANT PILE OF MULCH. All this mulch serves as excellent bedding for the coop and eventually will be compost for our gardens. It's a lovely, sustainable, cycle and anyone can do it!
