On this solemn day, we reflect on the courage, compassion, and resilience that united us in the face of tragedy. We pause to remember those we lost and honor the heroes—both human and animal—who stepped forward in our nation's time of need.

Here are the stories of just a few of the canine rescue dogs that were on the scene 23 years ago:

🇺🇸 Riley was a Labrador Retriever trained to find people. After being unable to discover any signs of life in the debris, Riley became discouraged and was reassigned to being a comfort dog. He helped firefighters and police alleviate stress on the hardest and most memorable days of their lives.

🇺🇸 Bretagne, a Golden Retriever, was one of the few rescue dogs who was able to navigate the rubble without a leash. She uncovered numerous victims and worked endlessly to bring some peace to their families.

🇺🇸 Apollo, a 2-year old German Shepherd, was the first canine on the scene. He tirelessly searched for survivors and was forced to stop from exhaustion.
