Imagine setting mouse traps in your house only to find them filled with angry snakes? That's what happened to a Texas family recently, and it's pure nightmare fuel.Danny Brown, of Greenville, Texas, said he placed sticky traps in his home to catch a mouse, but instead captured several rat snakes, ac...

The x-ray on the left is of a foxtail tract that was injected with contrast medium to show just how far a foxtail can travel. The lesion between the toes of the foot on the bottom right is how these tracts will look to the naked eye. This is a great example of just how far foxtails can migrate in tissues. Thank you to Dr. Andrew Grange from Veterinary Surgical Centers in Berkeley for this amazing x-ray.

Wherever you roam, your chances of a potentially dangerous rattlesnake encounter are small. The serpents are shy by nature and do their best to avoid humans. But two unnerving close calls seared this fact into my brain: A chance meeting with a rattler can happen when you least expect it, no matter h...

Warm weather brings out snakes, at least it did in SCV today. Detective Dorman said that while he was patrolling in Castaic, he was alerted to a rattlesnake (pictured below). Dorman was able to safely relocate the snake to an area far away from homes. Just like people, snakes like to come out of their cool weather hiding places to take advantage of the warm weather. It’s just something you may want to keep in mind if you hit the hiking trails.
