This page highlights animals needing foster care and those ready for adoption from the Santa Maria A This is your opportunity to get involved.

Every year hundreds of kittens enter the Santa Maria Animal Center. At times, we also have a need for nursing dogs and cats with kittens, under aged puppies, adult animals, and injured animals to find foster homes. Even with the help of dedicated foster homes, we struggle to find enough homes to care for the numbers we see. We will post a photo and description of the animal(s) in need of foster ca

re. If you are in a position to assist, you will need to contact the shelter or number listed for each post. Even if you just foster one litter, you are saving lives. All supplies and support are provided. Foster parents do need to isolate fosters for 10-14 days or the entire time they are in the home. Foster parents must be able to transport the foster animals to and from the shelter for check ups and medical needs. All foster animals, unless transferred to a rescue group, will remain the property of Santa Barbara County Animal Services and must be brought into the shelter for treatment, alteration, and adoption.

🌼 SOCIAL and LOVEABLE KITTENS! 🌼
……returning from Foster Care this week!
Meet Luke & Leia
They are sweet 10 week old sibling kitties that were found in the engine of a car brought in to a car dealership for maintenance. The foster parents have had them since they were just a day or 2 old. They've were bottle fed and are now eating dry and wet food. Luke and Leia are also litter box trained and ready for adoption.

Now these two cuties are bonded and are hoping to find a forever family to take them both home. They are the cuddliest kittens ever and are inseparable best friends that are almost always together! When they aren't cuddling with their favorite humans, they are together being silly playful like little jumping beans.
They have gotten along great with the foster family’s 3 adult cats, and they are even tolerant of the foster family dog.
Luke and Leia also have even enjoyed making friends with the family’s bunny! They do great with the kids and guests... they just love anyone who will give them attention.

~🔸These adorable playful kittens will be spayed/neutered on Friday, July 5th and can be adopted that afternoon to pre-approved adopters.

Kittens, Kittens and more Kittens!

Introducing Yoshi, Toad, Boo, Peach and Goomba

These beautiful kittens arrived to our Lompoc Shelter around the 18th of May at just 4 weeks old and sick with a serious kitty cold (URI). Now feeling so much better they will soon be ready to have their spay/neuter surgery and go home with new forever families.

Here is a short description of each personality:

PEACH (M) A530663
The most chill and laidback of his litter. He loves to make new friends and is the first to greet a new face. He’s a bit of an attention hog, and will cuddle up on you, for some gentle pets. No shy guy here.

YOSHI (M) A530658
Very playful and always instigating kitty wrestling with his litter mates. He’s a voracious eater and will overcome any obstacle, in his way, to secure a tasty snack. He easily adapts to new situations and just goes with the flow.

BOO (F) A530662
She was the first of her siblings to purr, and she starts her motor as soon as you pick her up. She’s the pioneer and leader of her litter. Very curious, and a true explorer. She loves to talk and is quite the independent little lady.

GOOMBA (M) A530666
He started out a little hissy, but has since come to be such a love bug. His favorite hobbies include getting as close to your face as possible and sleeping curled up around your neck. He can take a minute to warm up to new people but once he gets to know you, you’re besties.

TOAD (M) A530659
He’s the runt of his litter, but what he lacks in size he makes up for in courage. Always the first to awake after naps, and likes to pounce on his unsuspecting litter mates. He’s a very busy boy, so not a big fan of being held for too long, until he’s sleepy.

Black Widow gives purrs whenever she wants to snuggle.

Jessica Jones is very attached to Iron Fist and would love to be adopted with him. Although she may like to play with her siblings, she does enjoy “her” special alone time.

Neonate Fosters Parents Wanted
Hands-on Training Available

Kitten Season is Here! We are looking to recruit more community members that would like to syringe/bottle feed tiny neonate kittens that are found and brought to our Lompoc and Santa Maria Animal Center Shelters.

We provide the supplies you will need and work with you prior to you taking the kittens home so you feel confident.

Required:
🌸Ability to feed your neonate/newborn kittens every 3 hours until they are almost 3 weeks old - 24/7
🌸Ability to transport kitten(s) to their veterinary appts and work closely with our Foster Parent Coordinator.
🌸Love, nurture and work with your foster kitten(s) so that they are very social and ready to be adopted.

UPDATE: All have been adopted.

These cuties will be fixed and ready to bring home from the Santa Maria Animal Shelter this Saturday!
Adoption fees waived on June 1st since it’s national adoption day!

These four have been in foster care the past couple weeks and have adjusted well to a household full of pets and kids. The two tortie girls (Asoka and Saber)are pretty independent and would do well if adopted together or separately. Saber does enjoy hidey spots. Vader and Star are pretty sweet and do enjoy cuddles more than the other two. A huge note about Vader…. This little boy is very friendly, gentle and so much fun. Sweet Vader is a gem and a full package.
All are uber playful, litter box trained and have done well with the dogs in the foster home.

🔸Kitten Foster Parents Needed🔸

If you have any experience caring for kittens under 8 weeks of age or would like to learn- we could use your help.
♦️You must be able to follow the guidelines from our medical team to assure the best care for each life that comes into our program.

Goal:
▫️All kittens under 8 weeks are placed into a foster home.
▫️ When kittens are over 2 #, healthy and spayed/neutered that each cuddly kitten will find a forever home.
▫️All foster parents feel supported through this process

💗 We are especially in need of individuals who would like to syringe or bottle feed kittens under 3 weeks of age.
We will train you.
This is a very rewarding experience however, neonate kittens will need to be fed every 3 to 4 hours when under 2 weeks old- 24/7.
💕Reward: knowing you are saving a life and that little one sees you as its life saving parent.

🌸 Kittens under 8 weeks of age are coming in daily and we need the support from our community to help to care for them.
Our lifesaving foster program depends on our community members to volunteer so that each underage little one can be saved.

Mama Sophie, Higgins, Henry, Hobbs, Harper and Hayden are what makes up this adorable feline family.
Mama Sophie is a gorgeous, 4 year old Tortie who is very healthy and affectionate. She gave birth to her little ones in foster care on March 21st, 2024, with loving support of her foster parents.
Ms Sophie is a sweetheart and she has done a wonderful job caring for her babies. Their foster parents hold, cuddle and love all of them daily. This little family absolutely loves affection and human contact, especially kisses. So if you are looking for an amazing family feline or 2, consider completing an adoption interest form for them below.
In their foster home they are exposed to happy dogs, nosey cats and regular household noises. Mama Sophie and her kittens are fully litter box trained and use pine pellets for litter.

♥️Pulled by Rescue ♥️ Urgent Foster Needed Now - Please Beautiful and sweet Nugget just wants a place to lay down and sleep. He is good with cats and other dogs. This senior sweetheart is a neutered gray pittie with a heart of gold. He just wants to be loved and a place to rest. Nugget does have skin problems but our Vet Team is actively working on this to help him. Nugget is currently at the Lompoc Shelter and is getting very depressed. He was seen in the Lompoc Clinic today by our RVT Shelby and he was just trembling so she gave him a heating pad to curl up on. BTW, he really likes the Lompoc cat in the video. Can you foster him? Adoption Hours: 12 pm - 4pm All kittens here have been hand raised in a foster home, super loving and can’t wait to find a family or favorite human of their own. Gunther’s Stuffed Toy Request Update: Gunther is so happy to have people that understand his mission and need for sanity while recovering at our shelter. ♥️♥️UPDATE♥️♥️ Hazel had been adopted!!! …………… 💜…………… 💜 Meet Sweet, Sweet Hazel Hazel is a golden girl of 15 years whose “Hoppity-Hip-Hop” dancing days are not close to being over. She loves to dance after she eats lunch, dinner and actually just because she loves life. Through no fault of her own, Hazel found herself abandoned at our Santa Maria Animal Center Shelter. Hazel would love to find a family or person that will love her forever and give her the forever that she had thought she had. Hazel wants to enjoy the rest of her life feeling safe, loved, with someone to cuddle up with and most of all allow her to perform her amazing hippity-hop 2008 dance moves after every meal. Hazel is a sweet and happy gal. Currently she is in a foster home so we know she is fine with the foster family’s dogs in the home and REALLY LOVES HER FOOD! Adorable thing about Hazel is that she does get little bursts of playful energy, which is so much fun to watch! Of course then she is ready to take a nice, long and comfy nap. UPDATE: Mavis is ADOPTED ****♥️**** Sweet and FUN!! Meet Mavis! Here is message from her foster mom: When I sit down she wants to sit on my lap or be right next to me. She likes to snuggle in her bed under a blanket and sleep right next to me during the night. She loves to kiss and be very affectionate. She does not whine and is not a barker. She is protective of me and our home and will bark or growl at strangers. She has never snapped or tried to bite anyone. Once she knows we are all safe she will warm up to other people. She likes to go for walks and rides in the car. She is not a nervous dog. She enjoys sleeping and having quiet surroundings but is also very playful. She does little dances during feeding time. She gets along well with cats. She warms up to other dogs once she knows they are not a threat to her or our dog and family. She appears to have been neglected and abandoned pregnant. She had a litter of nine puppies at a young age. No one took the time to potty train her but she is learning quickly. She wants to please and she feels awful if she has had an accident. She recoils in shame and is afraid she will get punished. We have been using positive reinforcement and in just a few weeks she has learned to go to the door and scratch to get attention. We used diapers in the beginning and still do but they are rarely soiled. We take her out frequently and she prefers us to be with her. She does not like to be left outside and prefers the safety of being inside with the family. She is a wonderful family dog amd a great companion and as a bonus a great watch dog. She would be a blessing to any person or family that is lucky enough to adopt her. ❤️
