💔 Rescue only! Red-listed older dog "Bertha"!
🍂Meet Bertha🍂 She’s 7 years old and *possibly* pregnant (no ultrasound or x-ray yet)!! We don’t know if she’s in good shape (with her age and weight) to go through her possible pregnancy, so she desperately needs to go to a rescue who can help her.
Bertha is a sweetheart!!! She absolutely LOVES people and belly rubs🧸 Gentle and very mellow, walks slowly & calmly on leash. It breaks my heart to put her back in her kennel every day.
🐶Bertha is very calm around other dogs. Nonreactive in yards or kennel, isn’t phased by barking dogs.
Shelter notes: “ I am a sweet older lady, who needs a family that can help me on my weight loss journey! Ask to meet me! Pregnant ” Female 48 lbs 7 years.

Avenal Shelter herders love to play!
Video of the male cattle dog/heeler and female border collie mix at the Avenal Shelter (near Fresno, CA), who are in critical need of rescue or adoption. This shelter has almost no foot traffic or people in to adopt.
Please see post below for info on these two playful herders.
FOSTER URGENTLY NEEDED!
10/20/23 UPDATE: We have a foster and a plan for her! We should have her out of the shelter by tomorrow! Whew!
FOSTER URGENTLY NEEDED for this old girl!
Can anyone foster this old girl (even for a short time), so we can rescue her by Saturday (her last day at the shelter in Stanislaus County Shelter, Modesto, CA)? Otherwise, Oct. 21 (Saturday) is her last day.
If we have a place for her to land and can commit to taking her, the shelter will give us a few days to work out transport.
HITTGV will pay for her medical and other expenses. And, she seems fine with other dogs. Pretty much ignored the other female dog she met.
Please email [email protected] if you have questions or may be able to foster!
Help us find a great home for this sweet pup!
10/11/23 UPDATE: Little guy has been adopted!
PLEASE SHARE TO HELP us find a great home for this sweet pup!
This little guy was dumped on rural property in Merced, CA. He was found by following his cries. He was covered in foxtails and burrs. After a few days, his finder brought him to the shelter where he sat for almost 3-weeks.
His finder contacted us to say she would foster him - and we got him out today! When she arrived to get him out, after almost 3-weeks in the shelter, he remembered her and was super excited to see her!🥲
He’s everything a pup should be - he’s sweet natured, loving, and playful, with the energy you’d expect from a puppy. He seems to be fine with meeting people, a little hesitant until he can check them out. and had no problem when meeting a cat. He wanted to be friends with a grouchy senior cat. He likes to play and engage with people he knows. But, is also happy if given a chew or plush toy. Most of all, this little guy wants to feel secure.
He is very smart and a fast learner. He was not house broken, but is quickly starting to get the idea.
Not sure of his breeds, but he will likely be a medium-large sized dog. We estimate that he is now around 10 to 12 weeks old. Maybe weighs 15 lbs? Vet appointment scheduled first thing next week.
Please email: [email protected] with questions or if interested in fostering or meeting him.
PLEASE SHARE!!! Need Rescue, or Adopters, or Foster(s) for these two very sweet, approx. 18 month old, Border Collie boys!
The Stockton (CA) Animal Shelter is completely full with no place for these two cuties. The person in the video is an emergency, short term foster who cannot have them any longer!
The Stockton Shelter needs a safe place for these boys to land. They are only about 25 lbs. each, and can be fostered or adopted by separate homes. Here is what shelter staff said about them:
Zip (A330923) and Rip (A330918) are very people friendly, and eager to please. They both come when called. Zip the mostly black one is the more confident one, and is catching on faster than Rip when it comes to their commands and fetch. But, they both learn quickly. The emergency foster doesn’t have a lot of time to work with them like they need.
Have not tested with other dogs on the property yet. They have a lot of energy, but are not over the top. They were largely outside dogs; they came in covered with fleas and tick. And no, not neutered. They are around 25 pounds.
Sadly HITTGV cannot take them, as several of us will soon be away for several weeks, and have no one to care for them or support a new foster.
Rescues please email: [email protected]

We and all rescues receive messages like this every day! What is the *#%! matter with people?! These 4 week old pups were left in a bucket outside where it was 107 degrees! One didn’t make it). If a rescue group hasn’t come forward to take them - If anyone can foster for the shelter, these pups are with the Stanislaus County Shelter, Modesto, CA. General public inquiries: (209) 558-PETS; Rescue only: (209) 342-1747
The July 4th and Christmas holidays are THE worst times for animals needing rescue.
May 9, 2023 UPDATE: Teddy is in his 2-week adoption trial period!
Don’t know why we have no interest in this super loving, gentle and sweet boy! He had a rough start in life, but has a wonderful natural personality that cannot be taught. Please share and help us find people who are willing to work with this diamond in the ruff to enable him to be the perfect companion! Everyone who has met him, thinks he is fantastic!
Our new deaf and completely blind (now confirmed) guy is one amazing little guy. He already knows the smell of his new foster dad and manages to quickly appear at his side wherever his foster is in the house!
Now, look at him move in this video, taken a few days ago.
We were all shocked to learn that his left rear leg (femur) is broken! X-rays show the bone ends overlapping and callus or scar tissue already growing around the break. Vet said it probably happened several months ago, maybe a year. Too late to re-set or put in a plate. Vet recommended anti inflammatory meds and letting it continue to fuse in the overlapping position it’s currently in. The vet’s only other alternative is amputation. He’s using it pretty well, so we’re going for pain/inflammation meds. Still waiting for bloodwork results. Fingers crossed🤞that he doesn’t have heartworm, too!
We are so very grateful to the kind hearts and generosity of two households who came forward to enable us to rescue this deaf and almost blind 5 year old boy (in the harness that’s too big for him). What a fantastic, mellow, happy guy! Just arrived, and meeting a deaf, 14 year old foster sister in this video.
Injured Cattledog-Border Collie Mix
FOSTER NEEDED (or SHARE TO ANOTHER RESCUE)!
Help us save this guy, who is "rescue only" at the Stanislaus County Shelter (CA), because of an injured foot. Can anyone foster him for us? We will pay for all vet/medical expenses and supplies. It's a great way to try out a dog and then "foster fail" by adopting. He looks like a very gentle, sweet gem! They are calling him a cattle dog, but he looks to be a cattle dog and border collie mix.
If you may be willing to or even thinking about fostering this guy (to adopt, or until we can find him an adopter), please email: [email protected] If not, please share to help find him another rescue!
7/15/22 UPDATE: WE HAVE A FOSTER for Marcus!!!
Thank you everyone!
FOSTER NEEDED (or adopter or other rescue) for a fabulous dog being overlooked! “Marcus” is approximately 2-years old, super sweet personality, adores people, and is eager to please. He gets along with everyone! He is great with all dogs, and fine with cats, and chickens. He is a favorite at the shelter, and is so excellent with other dogs that the volunteers use him when testing other dogs in dog-to-dog meetings. Marcus has a playful personality, and squeaky toys are one of his favorite things.
We would love to rescue him and find him the great loving home he deserves, but don’t have a foster home or place for him! Please share this, or if you have questions or may be able to help us by fostering, please email us at [email protected] or call (707) 583-9583. We are in Sonoma County, CA.
Update on our 11 year old, sweetest Rusty who had been living in a car for 6-years, before being hit by a vehicle and then taken to the shelter. We are still trying to make up for lost time on all of his health issues. He has a punctured ear drum, a cancerous lump behind his ear, some irritant in his sinus cavity, and elevated liver enzymes. We managed to snag a Sage Oncology appointment for this Saturday. 🤞
Whether this is fospice or adoption, he is now living the best life with his new brother Rex, and enjoying daily morning walks on their property.
Instead of being euthanized at the shelter today, this happy, sweet, playful pup got pulled and transported to our foster home today! Thank you Valerie and Jason for reaching out and opening their home to Tisha, and to Nadia and Michelle on their hours of work to help us rescue this sweetie who is still just a baby... and to all the shelter volunteers who work tirelessly to save as many animals as they can! Special shout out to Rhita who is always willing to do whatever she can in a pinch, and is always amazing!
4/2/22 UPDATE: Just heard that Skippy went to another rescue (don’t know who though)! 🥳 Thank you everyone who shared him! We’re sure it enabled the right people to see him.
PLEASE SHARE! Seeking a foster or adopter (or another rescue) for happy, playful, 8 year old Skippy! He would be a wonderful companion for someone! He loves toys and balls and is a velcro cattle dog who adores his people. Skippy is ID# A807349 at the Bradshaw Shelter in Sacramento, CA.
Skippy meets other dogs well, basically ignoring them. He was returned by recent adopters who have other dogs, because he doesn't want to share his people with other dogs, and keeps the other dogs away. These people loved him so much, and reached out to us to help get Skippy out of danger at the shelter and into a home. Here is what they said about him:
"He is so affectionate and friendly with humans. He is a super easygoing and sweet 8 year old boy. He is housetrained, leash trained, knows stay, sit, lay down and adjusts to diets very easily. He has all the classic heeler tendencies: Follows his human around everywhere, protects you like no tomorrow and loves to play tug-of-war any second of the day."
We were told that his original person surrendered Skippy to the shelter after she invited a lot of people over, and several people arrived and came through the door at once, freaking Skippy out. He nipped one person on the leg. Now he needs rescue. Please email us at [email protected], if you may be interested in fostering or adopting Skippy!
In the few weeks since we rescued Miss Daisy, she has made great progress! When we got her she spent the first 2-days hiding under a bed. She clearly had never lived in a house before, had zero training, zero exposure to the outside world, and the only thing she knew about people was that they would hit her.
Miss Daisy is now learning basic commands, how to live inside and loving her foster family and dogs. She does need adopters who have another dog (or two) who can teach her what to do in different situations, all of which are new to her. She is timid, yet very playful with other dogs, sweet as can be, and doesn’t have a mean bone in her body. We are seeking experienced people who have worked with a timid abused dog, and are in a quiet situation, with some space to play and race around.
Please see Miss Daisy’s full description on our website: hittgv.org
We just rescued a very sweet, happy, playful, little, 3 year old, red female from a rural shelter with almost no visitors. She’s the little one in the harness. This video was just her 2nd day out of the shelter (where she had been since mid-August).
Ginger is very friendly, smart and curious. She’s great with people, other dogs, and larger farm animals. Her people gave her up because she goes after the chickens. She’s ok with cats who don’t run. If they run, she will chase.
We have a short term only foster - Please call us at 707-583-9583, or email: [email protected], if you are interested in fostering or adopting this little cutie!
PLEASE SHARE and help "Rusty" find a great loving home!
People often tell us they can't find an Australian Kelpie to adopt - meanwhile a beauty like this sweet, loving, female, "Rusty" has been at the Yolo County Shelter (Woodland, CA) for months!
