The Sonoma County Animal Shelter is committed to serving the public in the care and well being of animals, both domestic and livestock, throughout the unincorporated areas of Sonoma County, the city of Santa Rosa and the town of Windsor. The Shelter is operated by Sonoma County Animal Care and Control, a division of the Department of Health Services. The Shelter offers such diverse services as fin

ding homes for adoptable animals, providing shelter for stray animals, offering assistance to owners and finders of lost animals, providing limited veterinary care, and maintaining pet licensing. In addition, the Shelter sponsors various community education and outreach programs throughout the year. The Shelter's field services include rescue and care of injured or distressed animals, rabies control, investigation of reports of animal abuse and neglect, and the enforcement of animal regulation laws and ordinances. In addition to its on-site and field personnel, the Shelter is assisted by the efforts of our volunteers who work with the animals in our care and participate in various education and fundraising programs.

Heat-related illness can be deadly for everybody, even our pets and companion animals. 🐾 Some signs of overheating in animals include excessive panting or difficulty breathing, increased
heart and respiratory rate, drooling, mild weakness or lethargy, stupor or even collapse,
excessive thirst, and vomiting or diarrhea. You can help your furry friends this summer by
keeping them in cool places and hydrated with water. NEVER leave your animals in unattended
parked cars. Contact a veterinarian for concerns, and in emergencies. 🐶🐾🐱

Are you prepared for the upcoming July 4th holiday?

Fireworks can be scary for some pets so take necessary steps to ensure your pets’ wellbeing & safety!

And most importantly - check that microchip information! Microchipping is essential in reuniting pets when they are lost. Make sure you and your furry friend can be reunited if they get lost by verifying all your information with the microchip company.

We love seeing our pups thrive in foster care!!!

This is sweet little Madison. She was so shy and nervous in the kennel environment. The last two photos are from when she was in the kennel. One of our fosters agreed to take her home and show her lots of love and now she is becoming a confident, playful, and absolutely happy puppy!!

Fish and Otter!!

UPDATE: BOTH ADOPTED!!! Fish and Otter are now available for adoption!! They are 11 week old Dachshund & Poodle mixes. They are super sweet and super cutie!! You can meet these cuties starting tomorrow at 12pm!

Adopt Nando

Update: Transferred to the good folks at Humane Society of Sonoma County. Sweet Nando. The rain had just cleared and we took him out for a walk, but all he wanted to do was go back inside where it was warm. So that’s just what we did and we sure enjoyed a nice long cuddle session with him. He’s just about the sweetest boy in the world and what an old soul he is! With his warm, affectionate and grounded personality, you just can’t help but feel better after sharing time with him – he’s seriously good company to spend time with. He loves playing with toys and is a very good listener - he just loves it when you talk to him. He's that very special once in a lifetime kind of guy - so come on over and meet him today!
