Wow!

Wow!

I was pulled from my field, from my work, from my play,
Ne'er again to see England, in lands far away,
Through death and destruction, through blood sweat and tears,
I carried my master, along with my peers,
So I ask you to remember a while,
Along with the soldiers, in smart rank and file,
Remember our beauty, the strength of our kind,
As we galloped through danger, without care to mind,
For we were the horses thrust into war,
And we gave up our lives for your peace evermore.

The War Horse, 1914 - 1918

This is a shock to see this size!!! Wow!!

Do you really understand how big your horse's lungs are? This picture is a horse's lungs fully inflated...amazing when you think they are enclosed in a horse's body! Did you know a horse takes in 2x 5-Gallon buckets of air ever second? Think of how much that really is. So, do the best you can to help your horse breathe!

‘I want to just ride’ - Say this to any seasoned professional in the game and they will look at you like ‘Oh honey’ 😂

You have to learn to be a rider, groom, horseman/women, business owner, lead a team, handle clients and alongside all this you’ve still got to muck out and pick a broom up until you can earn enough money to have someone help you do this whilst you are doing something else to earn this said money.

‘I want to just ride’ doesn’t exist and if you see someone doing that you have no idea how hard they worked to get in that position. So get sweeping my friend ♥️

THIS is a disaster in the making. Not if but when will accidents and deaths happen. The roads wind and there are dangerous drop offs. There are so many places for bikers and hikers. This is the ONLY place for equestrians only. It is a place to safely ride and train young non veteran horses.
Please please please send letters to all in government all the way up to the Supervisors.
I rode today and every place on the only road in and out we were commenting that bikes coming down the road would be a disaster as there is no way to weave around each other the way the terrain is. Horses will be spooked and the only question is who will become the sacrificial lambs before they realize the disaster in combining bikes/hikers with horses on these trails. There is one way in and out and there is not room for bikes coming down to meet up suddenly with horse riders coming up.

Very fun and educational to watch. They are crouched naturally in their hind quarters so a jump to them just means to open up and stretch!

And here we go with a bachelor band of male horses! Practicing and sparring for what they will need once they are serious about going out to start their own herd and will have to seriously compete and/or fight with other stallions to do so. Our domesticated horses do the exact same thing! Just not as serious since most of the male horses we own are gelded and thus they are not driven by testosterone...but by innate instincts.
When your horse takes a swipe at you like these do with each other and you take a swipe back he will come in for more! Yay! Game on for him and he is ready to keep it up. There are other ways to stop his request to start a sparring session!! You have to get to know the qualities of the animal you interact with for your best result!!
Horses are SOOOO misunderstood!! I see it all the time!!

Pretty interesting example of one stallion (brown one) had stolen two mares the night before from the stallion with the black mane and tail. That guy races in to reclaim his two mares from the would be thief. They fight and you see the brown one try to come between the mares when they begin to race to their old herd. He tries gallantly to get between them and head them off but the black mane stallion gets the better of him and the mares return to his herd.

But this is the way it is in the wild. Once the males become mature they break off from the herd they grew up in and form bachelor bands and practice and hone their skills in play with each other so they are skilled when they decide to begin the process of creating their own herd by stealing a few mares from various other herds like this boy did but did not prove to be able to keep them. Interesting how this process keeps them from severe inbreeding this way.

It also explains why the males and females are so different in their behaviors even as domesticated animals that have never lived in the wild. Their instincts are there. The gelded males are less decisive than the fully intact stallions but there is a very major difference in how they are from the females.

Ever find yourself in a battle of sorts with a gelding that nips over towards you? You hit them back and they come in for more? Well guess what? Of course he comes in again. It is "hot dog, game on!! Let's spar and play as I hone my skills!!" There are very different ways to stop the game instinct when your gelding dishes out the first hit of his desired game. Hitting him back is not it unless you hit so hard time after time that you break his spirit. He just needs to understand that it is not play time. Put his head away from the game or block it but certainly do not snap back or he will instinctively come in again!

The more one knows about these differences and how to bring out the best in each male and female horse the better your relationship is with them!!
