This sweet, two-year-old tan and white lab mix is looking for her forever home. At around 50lbs, Clementine is full of love and energy. She absolutely adores playtime and has been fantastic on her walks. Though she hasn't been in a playgroup yet, she's shown just how sweet and well-behaved she is. Currently she's being treated for an ear infection but that doesn't dampen her spirit!

Grab a drink and settle in to read all about Bilbo, adopted 5/12/24 and his life in his forever home! It's a pupdate!

"Here’s an update on our dog, Bilbo, adopted from Sarasota Animal Services on May 12, 2024. Bilbo’s story has a happy ending—love and fur and dog kisses forever!
We watched this little black dog live on his own for at least two months in the fields near our house. Nobody knew where he came from, or why he was out there living like a tiny lone wolf. The neighbors down the street started feeding him, but he would only take food when they put a bowl out, called him, and withdrew inside their house. He’d eat the food, and carry the bowl away, just in case it magically filled up later. We started feeding him too and tried for weeks to coax him to let us approach him. He always ran from us. Finally, we called the kind folks at Animal Services. They set a trap in our yard, we placed food in it, and he walked in. He had no identification chip, no tags, and was not neutered. We relinquished him to Animal Services, hoping we could adopt him after he was checked out by vets and staff and quarantined.
Okay—we have three cats. They were here first. In fairness, if any new animal was to join our family, it had to meet them, peacefully and safely, and get their approval. Otherwise—we’d be very sad, but he’d have to return to AS for another family to adopt.
After the requisite time with Animal Services, we met the little guy, up close for the first time. His barking was extreme, but we were already in love—that had happened during the time we watched him roaming wild and alone near our house. After the paperwork, with Bilbo in the car on his way to his new home, he suddenly relaxed. And at our house, he was gentle, and a little fearful, of our cats, and we all relaxed.
Now, we can’t imagine life without the little guy. We’ll probably never know how he came to be living on his own in that field for so long, but we’re going to make sure he never wants for love, food, and safety ever again. He is smart, high energy and somewhat stubborn, but mostly sweet. He is still apprehensive of strangers and other dogs, and he barks to let them know he might be small but he’s tough. We’re okay with that--his caution no doubt helped him survive on his own for so long.
It’s only our third week together, but we’re his and he’s ours and the pack is happy and complete.

We've been waiting all week for , and here's your update!
Cassandra writes, "We welcomed Tito and Whiskey to the fur baby clan recently. Both at 8 weeks of age. Whiskey (orange) took the his new home with ease. Tito (brown tabby) was a bit more reserved but after a few days it was all we could do to contain him. They are both so playful and energetic but also cuddlers. Tito likes to sit on your shoulder like a parrot. Our dog loves them both and wants to play. Our older cat Rue is slowly coming around and her curiosity about them grows but she also lets them know who is boss when the kitties get to bold. Love them all." She also included a photo update of Rue, living her best life for the past several years. Rue was adopted at 8 months of age.

It's an update a year in the making! Happy to Melo and his family, who write: "Hello. It has been a year since Luke now…”Melo“ came into our lives and we are forever grateful for his beautiful soul! He makes us laugh every single day. He loves all his canine siblings; in fact he thinks he is a dog himself. He sits, begs for treats, shakes, comes, walks on leash, meets us at the door, and loves to wrestle with our two teenage boys. Melo is full of love, full of light and continues to be a beloved family member that we truly adore. His favorite thing is to bird watch and chase lizards on the lanai. We can’t get enough snuggles, hugs and kisses in on this little guy! Thank you for rescuing this amazing boy that we love so very much!

Our Shelter Will Be Closed Wednesday To Volunteers & The Public

Our shelter will be closed Wednesday 8/30 to volunteers and the public as we wait out Hurricane Idalia.

Ricky writes, "Thank you for checking on Poe She is happy and healthy, it turns out she is a rare "Chantilly" Kitten and will mature into a gorgeous long haired female at about 2 years old. They are slow to mature and she is quite a handful as a kitten. She is progressing nicely and is leash trained as she gets nightly walks. She has learned that my shoulder is a safe place and goes there when something like thunder frightens her. That is also where she sits when she rides in the car which she does well as long as the air conditioning is doing its job. Thank you for connecting me and Po, she has improved the quality of my life and I do my best to make sure she has not just the basics but the best I can provide for her as well as unconditional love."
