This past weekend was out Apprentice Gabby’s birthday! Make sure to wish her a happy birthday if you see her around! Also shes been with us just over a year now!

Gabby helps keep the barn clean and organized. Cares for all the horses and helps hold for appointments. She has started helping more with training horses and is not afraid to hop on the green horses every now and again. You may also see her helping out during lessons. She helps keep things smooth sailing around the barn! We couldnt do it with out her!

Mustangs….

Did you know 3 of the lesson horses you see here at BFF were once wild mustangs?

Aria, Maggie, and Nutmeg were all wild horses that were rounded up.

Clare started both Maggie and Aria under saddle, Nutmeg came started under saddle but was very green.

Each of these girls is BLM branded. The brand is symbols and each symbol represents a number. The first symbol is for the BLM the next two are the year they were born, the remaining numbers represent the area in which they are from and herd management.

Each herd management has its good and bad for size, attitude, color, temperament and how easy they were to start from wild.

Nutmeg- white mountain, wyoming
Aria- Triple B, Nevada
Maggie- Destoya, Nevada

The time is coming!

No stirrup November is right around the corner. Here are some things to consider.

The goal is to improve the riders balance, strength and riding skills.

Not all riders will be able to complete the entire lesson without stirrups and thats OKAY! For those that cant we will use interval training so you still get some time without stirrups.

Your muscles will be sore! You will be working muscles you do not normally work, so be ready to feel the burn!

If you ever feel uncomfortable we will adjust to what best works for you and your horse! Getting outside of your comfort zone is how you grow but we never want you to feel unsafe or it to become dangerous.

Most importantly get ready to level up as a rider!

We believe every horse in training should go through daily life skills to best set them up for the real world.

This means they are taught things they will see in every day life. Such as standing tied, trailer loading, standing to be hosed off.

The more real life situations we can teach and guide them through the better off they will be for YOU in the long run.

Rowan is just finishing up his training with us and is showing off how well of a gentlemen he can be when standing tied.

We have an awesome tie wall to safely introduce horses to being tied. They can move around safely without getting hung up or hurt.

Monday night group lesson!

Here at BFF we offer both individual and group lessons to cater to every riders needs.

Group lessons are great for uplifting each other. Holding each other accountable, cheering each other on and learning all together. It also gives riders the ability to help each other out if they get stuck.

Our Monday night girls all have varying skill sets but all push each other and cheer each other on!

We love to end our sessions with a friendly game of tag to work on speed control, steering, and rein management!

Friendly reminder as we head into winter we adjust our hours. Due to no indoor riding arena, losing daylight faster, and cold temps we adjust our hours.

Monday-saturday 9am to 7pm
Sunday 10am to 6pm

Barn etiquette at BFF 101

SMILE: we are here to ride horses and have fun. Smile! You do not have to chat it up with everyone, but kindness to both people and animals is important.

P**P FREE ZONE: After you get done for the day make sure your horse didnt have any accidents in the arena or barn. If they did scoop it and leave it clean for the rest of us.

TIDY UP: Once you get done riding, put all your equipment away and give the barn a sweep. A clean and clutter free barn makes everyone happy!

LOST AND FOUND: Did you forget something? Or misplaced it? Remember to check our lost and found bin for any belongings you may have lost.

No stirrup November starts…. RIGHT NOW!! Lets build stronger riders, stronger seats, better balance and stronger legs!

The best place way to get a young one broke is by letting them out if the arena to experience sights and sounds. Rowan loves venturing out and we did our first ride down the road. He handled it great! Hes never offered to bolt or spook when out and about. Even when another horse bolted off he maintained his cool.

The past 3 days of clinic with Wylene were great. Perfect weather. Everyone laughed, cried, enjoyed their own horses, other horses, grew personally and as riders. Some quotes…. “This was life changing” “I lm just in disbelief I did that” “I am having so much fun” “I feel like a kid again” it was a great weekend!

2 days of clinic! Laughing, loving, tears, doing hard things, getting out of our comfort zones, riding and guiding our horses. A cool safe environment with a bunch of awesome people to learn and grow together!

Day one of youth camp with Wylene! These girls learned how to ride and guide. They learned about saddles, flying lead changes, how to ride fast, rode out on the trails, did hard things! They pushed themselves and had fun doing it! Heres to round 2 tomorrow!

As a trainer I think its important to be well rounded, have eyes on the ground, and always continue your training. I took a refresher jump class and it was great to test myself again.

Its been a busy day at the farm! Gunner got his first ride here (hes been ridden prior). My lesson student got to watch me train, helped clean the barn, had a ride on Nutmeg. Maggie got her first ride by a novice rider. Gretchen was so excited to ride Maggie even if its only a walk and Maggie handled it like a champ! Maggie is still pretty green under saddle so this was a great test!

One of our lesson girls helped out around the barn in the heat! Taking horses in, hosing them down, putting them under fans.

Cammo started to learn curbside pickup to help with his rider mounting issue. He is sooo smart. It took about 20min for him to figure it out. Whats even cooler is Karsyn also got to learn how to teach it. I started the basics and then taught her, she has only ever taught her mare! Helps when the training horse is smart and willing to learn.
