This is just a notice of the Canine Respiratory Illness that is affecting our canine patients in some areas of the United States. As of November 24th, we have not had any confirmed cases of this Canine Respiratory Disease, but we are taking precautions at KC Animal Hospital.
We are currently recommending the following:
We are HIGHLY recommending that vaccines are up to date for eligible dogs, including Canine Infectious Disease (also known as Bordetella or Kennel Cough) and Canine Influenza H3N8.
We also recommend limiting your dog's time spent around other dogs. This may mean:
Reducing or suspending time at doggy daycare
Limiting time at boarding facilities
Reducing time at pet grooming
Avoiding dog parks and other public areas, when possible
During this time, we recommend monitoring your dog closely for any of the following respiratory signs:
Coughing
Productive coughing (ex. mucus from the mouth after coughing)
Sneezing
Nasal or ocular (eye) discharge
Rapid or labored breathing
Lethargy or weakness
Decreased appetite or anorexia
Fever
If you notice any of the signs listed above in your dog, please schedule an appointment with us for further assessment and notify the hospital of the respiratory signs in advance of your arrival so that precautions can be taken to prevent the infection of other pets. (480) 451-8375
